Police: Two adults, juvenile arrested on drug charges in traffic stop
The driver of a vehicle is still at large after police detained passengers during a traffic stop.
According to Morgan City Police Chief James Blair, Quandon Favors, 29, of Jones Street in Berwick, and Lawrence Garrett, 21, of Florida Street in Morgan City, were arrested at 11:19 p.m. Wednesday on possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
Blair said patrol officers conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle being operated in the area of Fifth Street that failed to stop at a stop sign. A woman who was operating the vehicle fled the scene on foot, police said. Favors, Garrett and a juvenile were located as occupants of the vehicle.
According to Blair, Favors, Garrett and the juvenile were found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. All three subjects were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where Favors and Garrett were jailed. The juvenile was released to a guardian. The investigation is ongoing in regard to the operator of the vehicle.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests regarding east St. Mary Parish
—Todd Martin, 52, of Rose Lane in Centerville, was arrested at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday for no license plate, no driver’s license on person, and no motor vehicle insurance. Hebert said a deputy conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle traveling on La. 182 in Centerville with no visible license plate. The deputy found that the driver, Martin, did not have a driver’s license with him and that the vehicle he was driving did not have insurance. Martin was released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 11.
—Tanya Authement, 45, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy located Authement at her residence. Authement was jailed with no bail set.
—Bryan Wright, 43, of Ponderosa Lane in Gray, was arrested at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday for violation of a protective order and on two warrants for failure to comply with terms and conditions of probation. A deputy investigating a complaint at a residence in Patterson came into contact with Wright. Hebert said the deputy found evidence that Wright threatened a female victim by telephone in violation of a court order. The deputy also located the active warrants for his arrest. Wright was jailed with no bail set.
—Amanda Lacoste, 33, of Enterprise Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 8:01 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for simple battery. Hebert said a deputy responded to a report of a battery outside of a business in Bayou Vista in June. The deputy collected evidence that Lacoste struck a woman. A warrant was issued for Lacoste’s arrest. A deputy located Lacoste at her residence. Lacoste was jailed and released on $2,500 bail.
—Seth Martin, 25, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Hebert said that while investigating a separate complaint in Baldwin, a deputy spoke with Martin and located the active warrant for his arrest. While searching Martin, the deputy located a burnt marijuana cigarette in his pocket. Martin was jailed with no bail set.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—William S. Deans Sr., 39, of Roselawn Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday on two warrants for violation of protective orders and a warrant for telephone harassment.
Deans was located and arrested at Morgan City Court on active warrants held by the Morgan City Police. Blair said the warrants are from two separate incidents on July 15 and 17. According to Blair, the victims alleged that Deans sent threating messages via telephone. Before both incidents, a protective order was in effect. Evidence was uncovered that corroborated the allegations. Warrants were prepared for Deans’ arrest. Deans was transported to Morgan City Jail with no bail set.
—Germany Broussard, 37, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace.
Patrol officers responded to a residence in the area of Leona Street in regard to a disturbance. According to Blair, officers arrived and Broussard was identified as a suspect involved in the disturbance. During the investigation, Broussard continuously continued to yell and use profanities. Broussard was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
JERRY JOSEPH GUILLORY
March 27, 1940-July 18, 2017
Jerry Joseph Guillory, a native and lifelong resident of Morgan City, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Armed with a contagious smile that he shared often and freely, Jerry filled many lives with his charm and joy. He was one of those individuals who could truly hold a good conversation with any friend or stranger.
He held a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying his time fishing and hunting, and was known to draw everyone’s attention when out on the dance floor. Jerry left this world, having fished, hunted, danced and laughed his way through 77 well-lived years among his family and friends.
Jerry leaves to cherish his beautiful memory his longtime companion, Barbara Cothron; his five children, Jerri Lynn Giroir and her husband, John, Sue Pearce, Geraldine Soto and her husband, Albert, Darlene Frye and her husband, Bill, and Gerald Guillory Jr. and his wife, Adrianna; one brother, Albert Mason; six sisters, Evelyn Olivier, Annabelle Chaisson, Doris McGee, Juanita Landry, Mary Odell and Jeanette Billiot; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, Earl and Ledea Guillory; four brothers, Robert, Bernie, Lloyd and Joe Guillory; two sisters, Myrtle Boudreaux and Jean Barrilleaux; one grandson, Sam Citrano; and his beloved pet, Little Man.
The family requests that a time of visitation and remembrance be observed Friday, July 21, 2017, from 9 a.m. until time of mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jerry following visitation at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Upon completion of services, Jerry will be entombed in the St. Joseph Church Mausoleum in Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for Masses to be prayed in Jerry’s name.
The children of Jerry would like to express their deep gratitude to Barbara Cothron, the love of Jerry’s life and constant dance partner, for her steadfast care, adoration, and love of Jerry during their 17½ years together.

Dance recital, art show, Stop the Violence events in the city
A “Stop the Violence” rally will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Broussard-Harris Recreation Center in Franklin.
The rally is intended to help curb gun violence and to promote good decision-making skills. Participation is free and open to the public.
Also, the Bayou Beaux Art and Dance Summer Arts Program dance recital and student art show will be Saturday at the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the dance recital begins at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and will be available until noon Friday at the following locations: Broussard-Harris Recreation Center, The Lamp Lighter, T-shirts and Treasures, The French Door and Meyer’s Shoe Store.
Persons unable to purchase a ticket before the show, tickets will be available the night of the show at the Teche Theatre box office for $5. The box office will open at 5 p.m.

Police Reports 7-20-17
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
Meagon Antoine, 24, of New Iberia, was arrested Tuesday at 12:03 p.m. on charges of no license plate and no insurance. She was released on a summons.
Robert Schexnayder, 46, of 734 Kem St., Patterson, was arrested Tuesday at 1:11 p.m. on a warrant charging him with simple battery, four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and criminal trespassing.
Continuing an investigation into a disturbance at a residence in Franklin that occurred on July 13, a deputy reportedly collected evidence that Schexnayder went onto private property, struck a female victim during an argument and pointed a handgun at a vehicle with four juveniles inside while making verbal threats. Bail is set at $9,500.

Michael Ledet, 55, 226 East 36th St., Cut Off, was arrested Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on two Lafourche Parish warrants for failure to appear on the charge of driving while intoxicated and failure to appear on the charge of speeding. A deputy was contacted by US Customs Enforcement Agents who advised that Ledet was being detained on the Lafourche warrants in Amelia. The deputy transported Ledet to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

Terence Charles, 24, 328 Third St., Franklin, was arrested Thursday at 2:01 a.m. for the following offenses: resisting an officer, possession of Schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, proper bicycle equipment required and violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone).
A deputy observed a subject traveling by bike with no visible lights on Sterling Road in Franklin and initiated a traffic stop. The male subject fled through the Franklin City Park. The deputy located the subject walking near a residence on Circle Drive. When the deputy ordered the subject to stop, he continued to flee on foot. The deputy apprehended the subject and identified him as Charles. During an investigation, Charles was found to be in possession of marijuana, a marijuana cigarette, rolling papers, and other items of drug paraphernalia. Charles was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and no bail is set.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrests:
Leroy Washington, 22, of Jupiter Street, Franklin, was arrested on Tuesday at 10:47 a.m. on the charge of obstruction of justice. Washington was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Roy East, 53, of Iberia Street, Franklin, was arrested Wednesday at 12:31 a.m. on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Officers responded to the area of Iberia Street in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who advised that East allegedly put his hand on the victim’s throat and pushed the victim. East was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Curtis Fusilier, 28, of Ninth Street, Franklin, was arrested Wednesday at 3:38 p.m. on a charge of possession of stolen goods. Fusilier was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
S&P Children’s Day royalty drawing set
Area children are invited to participate in the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival’s Children’s Day King and Queen Event being held at the Spray Park in Bayou Vista on Aug. 13. The event will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and will feature Children’s Day 2016 King Jalen Butler and Queen Audrey Cheramie selecting the new royalty for 2017 in a random drawing.
Entry forms may be filled out at the Spray Park on the day of the drawing. There is no entry fee. All children are welcome to attend the party, however only children ages 8 to 12 will be eligible to enter the drawing that selects the new king and queen.
The new royalty will be presented at the adult Royal Coronation on Aug. 26 at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium.
The 2017 Children’s Day King and Queen will reign over the Children’s Day Activities that begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 2 in Lawrence Park in Morgan City. Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of field games, races and more.
The Children’s Day Mini Street Parade will start at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at First Street and Lawrence Park.
All children who participate and are present at the drawing on Aug. 13 will be eligible to ride on a float in the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival Parade at 3 p.m. on Sept 3 in downtown Morgan City.
Children are also invited to attend the opening ceremonies of the Festival at 5 p.m. Aug. 31 in front of Mitchell Brothers Carnival on Second Street in Morgan City.
