The Brent family announces the passing of Carolyn Joyce Jones Brent, 74, a resident of Franklin, La., native of Glenco, La. and author of “God Gave Them To Me.” She passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 1:16 p.m., at Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma, La.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church on 104 10th Street, Baldwin, La. 70514 from 11 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m. (All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC-local regulations by wearing masks and practicing social distancing). Carl Murray Sr., 51, a resident of Patterson, La., passed away peacefully on Thursday November 12, 2020 at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, La.

Clarence “Sight” Byers, Jr., 65, a resident of Morgan City, La. and native of Berwick, La., passed away peacefully on Friday November 13, 2020 at his residence.

GORDON ERNEST STEADHAM

April 5, 1950 – November 21, 2020
Gordon Ernest Steadham, 70, a resident of Verdunville for the past 20 years, passed away at his home in the arms of his loving wife on the morning of Saturday, November 21, 2020, following many years of declining health.
Gordon was born in Atmore, Alabama on April 5, 1950, the ninth of ten children born to the late James Ernest Steadham and the late Lydia Elma Johnson Steadham. On May 18, 1986, he married the love of his life, Brenda Brooks. They were former longtime residents of Patterson prior to settling in the Verdunville area.
Gordon loved the simple things in life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who believed in hard work and gave his all to provide for his family. He had a love of cooking and nothing made him happier than preparing gourmet meals for his family and friends, whom he deeply loved. He was also an avid Saints and LSU football fan. But most important was Gordon’s love for the Lord Jesus Christ and his strong will to live. A 20 year cancer survivor, Gordon definitely knew the importance of a strong faith in the Lord. His presence on this side of eternity will truly be missed.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his wife of 34 years, Brenda Brooks Steadham; his children, Tera Strahan, Shantell Aucoin, and Jeremy Steadham; his grandchildren, Evan Blanco, Trevor Johnson, Landen Carter, Cheyenne Williams, Fiona Steadham, and Natalie Steadham; siblings, Eubie Steadham, Gayle Autin, Ouida Turner and her husband Robert; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his grandson, Ian Blanco; daughter-in-law, Hannah Steadham; six siblings, Mildred Wilson, James Arnold Steadham, Sue Stevens, Luverne Dennan, Thomas Clifford Steadham, and Glen Irven Steadham; two nieces, Charmaine Laterrade and Tracy Young; and a great nephew, Christopher Stevens.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at his son’s home on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 1 p.m. For directions please call (337) 241-8005.

December 29, 1955 – November 20, 2020
Wanda L. Picard, a longtime resident of Sorrel, passed away at her home at the age of 64 in the evening hours of Friday, November 20, 2020. Wanda was born in Franklin on December 29, 1955, the youngest of three children born to Milton and Marguerite Picard.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her husband, Edwin “E.J.” Louviere Jr.; five children, Sabin Wilbur and his wife Crystal, Jamie Wilbur and his wife Tonya, Natisha Savoie, William Kelly and his fiancé Jenna, and Benjamin Picard; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hedges; son-in-law, Eddie Savoie Sr.; 12 grandchildren, Eddie Savoie Jr. and his fiancé Jasmine, Chevy Wilbur, Tommy Savoie, Mallory Wilbur, Carter Wilbur, Ralph Savoie, Patrick Picard, Gracie Wilbur, Kayson Picard, Stevie Marquette, Delainey Hedges, and Slayde Kelly; two great grandchildren, Errolynn Savoie and Floyd Savoie; her sister, Gayle Dupuy and her husband Ulysses; and her nieces, Jeanette Savoie and Jennifer Ventress; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Paul Picard Sr. and Marguerite Derouen Picard; and her brother and sister-in-law, Milton Paul Picard Jr. and Betty Hawkins Picard.
Visitation was held at Ibert’s on Monday, Nov. 23 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again Tuesday morning starting at 8 a.m. A Life Celebration was held Ibert’s Mortuary on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at 11 a.m. Burial followed in the St. Helen’s Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Sabin Wilbur, Jamie Wilbur, William Kelly, Benjamin Picard, Eddie Savoie Jr., and Tommy Savoie. Honorary pallbearers were Carter Wilbur, Ralph Savoie, Patrick Picard, Kayson Picard, and Floyd Savoie.

Ribbon cutting held for Isaiah's House

St. Mary/Vermilion Community Action Agency, the City of Franklin, Louisiana Housing Corporation, and ABC Carpentry gathered Nov. 18 at 108 Hogan St. in Franklin to officially cut the ribbon commemorating the completion of the Isaiah’s House project, four new houses on that block to be made available to low income families. SMCAA Executive Director Almetra Franklin said, “These units will provide decent, safe, affordable housing. We are so thankful that the Lord has allowed us the opportunity to provide housing for people who need a decent, safe, affordable place.” And Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard remarked, “This is a beautiful, beautiful housing development. All glory to God.”
