Sheriff: Man arrested after slipping during foot chase

A 37-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Thursday after detectives attempted to stop a pickup truck in Amelia, and the man then fled on foot until authorities caught him when he slipped trying to jump across a ditch, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release. —Nathaniel Washington, 37, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:39 p.m. Thursday on the charges of improper backing, reckless operation of a vehicle, driving with a suspended license and resisting an officer. Big potential cost savings to combining coastal projects

St. Mary Levee District leaders hope a proposal to combine the Bayou Chene Flood Control and Diversion Project with another coastal project may solve Bayou Chene’s funding shortfall. The levee district commission met Thursday at the parish courthouse in Franklin. Officials discussed a proposal to coordinate the Bayou Chene Flood Control and Diversion with a project to increase the Atchafalaya River’s flow east into Terrebonne Parish to bring freshwater and sediment, in an effort to restore Terrebonne’s coast. Board adopts school calendar

CENTERVILLE — St. Mary Parish public school students are counting down the days until May 26, when their summer vacation begins. Now they know when that vacation will end. The School Board approved the 2017-18 calendar at its meeting Thursday. Among the highlights: —Students will begin the 2017-18 school year Aug. 8. —The school year will end May 25, the Friday before Memorial Day. —The Christmas break will be Dec. 22-Jan. 2. —The Easter holiday will be March 30-April 6. Obituary for Melvin Brown

Melvin Brown, a native of Terrebonne Parish, died Friday, March 3, 2017.
Visitation will be Saturday at New Magnolia Baptist Church in Schriever from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Halfway Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie Williams-Brown of Thibodaux; a son, Kodi Brown of Morgan City; a daughter, Kanika Brown of Franklin; three grandchildren; his mother, Odeal Victor-Brown of Thibodaux; four brothers, Earl Brown, Andrew Brown, Junius Brown Jr. and Calvin Brown, all of Thibodaux; two sisters, Carolyn Joseph and Jacqueline Jackson, both of Thibodaux; and a host of relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.
Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary for John Livas

John Livas, 53, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Schriever, died Friday, March 3, 2017.
Visitation will be Sat-urday at First Baptist Church in Schriever from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by two brothers, Clarence and Donald Livas Sr. of Schriever; three sisters, Joyce Noble, Mable Chatman of Schriever and Gail Celestin of Morgan City; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Police Reports 3-10-17

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
Lacey Horton, 28, 317 D Coteau Holmes Road, New Iberia, was arrested on Wednesday at 8:33 a.m. on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Bail is set at $100,000.
Mindy Macaluso, 33, 135 Laura St., Patterson, was arrested on Wednesday at 12:12 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Bail is set at $3,297.14.
Abdul Tate, 22, 616 Cypremort St., Jeanerette, was arrested on Wednesday at 12:42 p.m. on two warrants for failure to appear on a warrant for operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Tate was released on a $1,250 bond.
Rigoberto Barrios, 31, 333 Glenwood St., Morgan City, was arrested on Wednesday at 1:43 p.m. on a warrant for criminal damage to property. He was released on a summons.
Anna Holmes, 38, 611½ Ibert St., Franklin, was arrested on Wednesday at 11:28 a.m. on a warrant for criminal trespass and reckless operation of a vehicle. She was released on a summons.
Salvadore Francois, 19, 118 Natalie Lane Lot 63, Patterson, was arrested on Thursday at 4:30 a.m. for possession of Schedule – marijuana, Schedule IV – tramadol, resisting an officer by providing false information and warrant for failure to appear on the charges of improper signaling and operating a vehicle with an inadequate windshield. No bail is set.
Tamoz Allen, 21, 271 Grandwood Drive, Apt. 29, Patterson, was arrested on Thursday at 4:30 a.m. for possession of Schedule IV – tramadol. No bail is set.
Narcotics agents arrested a juvenile male, 16, Four Corners on Wednesday at 2:35 p.m. for possession of Schedule IV – tramadol. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
Jacob Adams, 18, 26586 Oliver Wheat Road, Baton Rouge, was arrested on Wednesday at 2:58 p.m. for improper lane usage, no driver’s license on person, expired motor vehicle inspection, no proof of insurance and possession of Schedule I – marijuana. He was released on a $3,000 bond.
Leonard Ceasar, 32, 205 Martin Luther King St., Baldwin, was arrested on Wednesday at 7:28 p.m. for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule I – marijuana, possession of Schedule I – heroin – with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II – cocaine – with intent to distribute and transactions involving drug offenses. No bail is set.
Angela S. Clark, 43, 1213 Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested on Thursday at 11:18 a.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of driving while intoxicated. Clark was released on a $5,000 bond.
Chad Williams, 28, Two Sisters Court Lot 10, Bayou Vista, was arrested on Thursday at 2:51 p.m. for domestic abuse battery – child dndangerment Law, criminal damage to property and simple escape. No bail is set.
Stacy Williams, 35, 527 Russo Street, Berwick, was arrested on Thursday at 8:27 p.m. on four warrants for issuing worthless checks. Williams was released on an $11,250 bond.
Narcotics agents arrested Nathaniel Washington, 37, 522 Levee Road, Morgan City, on Thursday at 4:39 .m. for improper backing, reckless operation of a vehicle, driving with a suspended license and resisting an officer. Bail is set at $4,250

ANGELA LACHELLE WALLIS

Angela Lachelle Wallis, 36, a native and a resident of Houma, passed away peacefully at 11:33 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017.
A public viewing will be held at Dularge Community Baptist Church, 549 Andrew St. in Houma, on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. followed by a “Musical Celebration of Life” beginning at 7 p.m. The public viewing will resume at the church on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 9 a.m. until funeral time at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband Darnell Sneeze of Houma, La; sons, Damon Wallis of Houma, La., and Mykel Crawford Morgan City; daughters, Asia Wallis, Dymon and Kristyanna Sneeze of Houma, La; one grandchild, parents, Lloyd, Jr. and June Watson-Wallis both of Houma, La.; brothers, Shawnn and Michael Crawford, Jr., both of Franklin, La., Tybus and Kevin Wallis of Houma, La.; sister, Gennifer Crawford of Houma; paternal grandparents, Lloyd Sr. and Doretha Williams-Wallis of Houma, La.; and maternal grandmother, Virginia Matthews-Watson of Houma, La.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather.
