Police: Woman threatened people with gun

A 21-year-old Baldwin woman was arrested Sunday in Morgan City after she threatened people with a firearm during an altercation, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Jalaicia N. Collins, 27, of Kaylie Lane in Baldwin, was arrested at 1:31 a.m. Sunday on charges of aggravated assault and disturbing the peace.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Mount Street in Morgan City in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived and learned that Collins had brandished a firearm during the altercation and threatened the victims, Blair said.

The firearm was located in the area and Collins was arrested. She was jailed.

Blair reported responding to 76 calls and reported the following arrests:

—Carol S. Narcisse, 41, of Teurlings Drive in Lafayette, was arrested at 10:33 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of MDMA, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law-drug-free-zone and resisting an officer.

Patrol officers responded to a business in the area of La. 70 in regard to a suspicious person. The person had left the area prior to officers arriving and a description of the vehicle and person was obtained. The vehicle and person were located a short time in the area at which time officers initiated a stop.

Officers detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Officers identified Narcisse, who had exited his vehicle, Blair said. Report

Narcisse resisted officers when he was taken into custody and was found to be in possession of suspected MDMA, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Blair said. The incident took place within a drug-free zone. Narcisse was jailed.

—Jacob R. Salley, 39, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:37 p.m. Friday on a charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Eighth Street in regard to a suspicious person. Officers arrived and Salley was found to be in an intoxicated state, Blair said. Salley was jailed.

—Austin J. Landry, 25, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with criminal damage to property.

Landry was located and arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant. The warrant stems from an April 16 investigation where the victim alleged that Landry damaged property that belonged to them, Blair said. Warrants were prepared for Landry’s arrest. Landry was jailed.

—Walter S. Banegas-Portillo, 21, of Village Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. Friday on charges of DWI first offense, no driver’s license and open container in a motor vehicle.

Officers with the Morgan City Police Department and the Louisiana State Police conducted a sobriety check point in the area of La. 182 in Morgan City. Officers came in contact with a vehicle at which time the officers observed an open container of alcohol.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Banegas-Portillo, who was found to be in an intoxicated state, Blair said. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test and registered 0.195 grams-percent blood alcohol content on a chemical test, Blair said.

Banegas-Portillo was also didn’t have a valid driver’s license, Blair said. He was jailed.

—Robert E. Byrd, 41, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving under suspension and failure to secure registration.

Patrol officers observed a motorcycle being operated in the area of La. 182 and the license plate on the bike was not visible. A stop was initiated, and Byrd was identified as the operator of the motorcycle, Blair said.

Byrd also had a suspended driver’s license, Blair said. Byrd was jailed.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported 131 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests:

—A juvenile male, 15, was arrested at 11:41 a.m. Friday on charges of possession of marijuana. School resource officers responded to Patterson High School in regard to a juvenile being in possession of marijuana while on campus, Hebert said.

The juvenile was released into the custody of his guardian, pending juvenile proceedings.

—Devin Bell, 26, of Gabriel Street in Franklin, was arrested at 2:45 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of no vehicle registration, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license on person, and failure to honor written promise.

A deputy in the Patterson area observed a vehicle traveling with a broken tail light, Hebert said. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 90 near Red Cypress, and made contact with Bell.

The deputy learned that Bell held an active warrant. Bell was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bell was released on $355 bail.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Malcomb Williams III, 18, of Broussard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:42 p.m. Sunday on charges of speeding 36 mph in a 20 mph zone, flight from an officer and no driver’s license. Williams posted $2,250 bail.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.

St. Mary public schools, Central Catholic, Holy Cross will close Tuesday

A statement from the St. Mary Parish School Board central office:

Under the advisement of Homeland Security, weather conditions necessitate that ALL St. Mary Parish Schools and offices close on Tuesday, August 29th. The superintendent asks that personnel monitor conditions and stay informed via email and local news for any further updates as they become necessary beyond Tuesday.

All schools and offices well retain normal hours of operation for the remainder of [Monday]. Buses will run as scheduled.

Also, Central Catholic High in Morgan City will close Tuesday, according to Principal Vic Bonnaffee. Holy Cross Elementary will also be closed.

And St. Martin Parish, which closed its public schools Monday, will have no public school classes Tuesday.

President makes emergency declaration in La.

President Donald Trump has issued a federal emergency declaration for Louisiana as a storm that’s flooded Houston dumps heavy bands of rain on that state. Trump’s emergency declaration on Monday initially covers five parishes in southwest Louisiana: Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vermillion. A White House statement says the action authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster relief efforts in those counties related to Harvey. The declaration also authorizes the federal government to cover 75 percent of costs of certain emergency protective measures. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards requested the declaration, saying lifesaving efforts, including search and rescue and shelters,

BONNIE JUNE MARSHALL MARTIN

September 18, 1934- August 26, 2017

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson during an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Bonnie June Marshall Martin, a 54-year resident of Patterson who passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 82 on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Herb Bennerfield will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services, with Father Greg Fratt and Msgr. J. Douglas Courville JCL concelebrating. Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Adams Jr., Allie Adams IV, Austin Adams, Chase Martin,

Logan Martin and Miles Patureau. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday at St. Joseph from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Bonnie was born on Sept. 18, 1934, in Salina, Kansas, the youngest of three daughters born to the late Edward Burdette Marshall and the late Mary Dale Shank Tew, and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Salina. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who brought joy and laughter to all she met.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her six children, Leesa M. Foreman, Laddie M. Lawrence and her husband Ben, Mary Beth M. Spradlin and her husband John, Shelly M. Adams and her husband Al, Bonnie Jean M. Patureau and her husband Keith, and Sherel E. Martin and his wife Dana; 13 grandchildren, Beth Ann LaBrosse and her husband Dave, Bruce Adams Jr. and his wife Alicia, Lisa Paige Lawrence Mosely, Ryan Lawrence, Jack Spradlin, Allie Adams IV and his wife Ashton, Austin Adams and his wife Elizabeth, Alaina Adams Dozar and her husband Grant, Savanna Patureau, Miles Patureau,

Chase A. Martin, Lindsey Martin and Logan E. Martin; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Scheidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherel A. Martin Jr.; her father, Edward Burdette Marshall; her mother and stepfather, Mary Dale Shank Tew and William Tew; and one sister, Jean Marshall Smith.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Mrs. Bonnie’s caregivers, Lee Anna Acosta, Chante Gros and Sophia Willis, for the loving and compassionate care given to their mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1011 First St., P.O. Box 219, Patterson, LA 70392.

CATHERINE HEBERT AMOS

August 14, 1944 - August 24, 2017

Catherine Hebert Amos, 73, a resident of Gibson, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Terrebonne General Medical Center.

Catherine was born Aug. 14, 1944, in Bayou Boeuf, the daughter of Joseph Hebert and Irma Fryou Hebert.

Catherine will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Burns Rentrop and wife Darlene of Bayou L’Ourse, and Kurt Rentrop and wife Francis of Marksville; three brothers, Minos Hebert and wife Nyoaa of Morgan City, Joe Hebert of Gibson, and Albert Hebert and wife Betty Jo of Berwick; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Twin City Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Davis officiating. There will be a visitation held from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

CASSANDRA RANDLE

Cassandra Randle, 59, died Aug. 21, 2017, at her residence.

A memorial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Morgan City.

She is survived by two daughters, Catrina Gunner and Cherrill Randle, both of Lafayette; two grandchildren; her mother, Lillian Randle of Morgan City; one brother, Edison Randle Jr. of Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Madison of Morgan City, Carmen Randle of Lafayette and Ann Maxie of Calumet.

She was preceded in death by her father, four brothers and one sister.
