The Gibson family, of Baldwin announced Thursday that they will be hosting a charity dinner at the Baldwin Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Christmas day.
Citizens of Baldwin who are unable to provide Christmas dinner for themselves or their families are invited to attend, free of charge.
The announcement came at the Baldwin Board of Aldermen meeting, in the form of a request by Tony Gibson, to utilize the community center for the purpose of hosting the Christmas dinner.
In other news, Evelyn Wilson provided details for the Dr. MLK march to take place Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The march will begin at 9 a.m. at Special Providence Baptist Church, Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., in Baldwin, and will end at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Rudolph Street, Baldwin, at 11 a.m.
Also, Krewe of Donnis will host a Mardi Gras ball Feb. 9 at the Baldwin Community Center, followed by a parade on Feb. 10.
Before the meeting adjourned, the council met in an executive session, where they discussed the acceptance of the resignation of Town Clerk Sonya Jones, who was terminated Dec. 5.
The council resolved not to accept the resignation of Jones, but to consider her as having been terminated, and appointed Tammy Richard as interim town clerk.
The VOICE traveling Christmas Tree was set up at Chitimacha Tribal Police Department this year. Voices of Innocent Citizens Empowered Support Group hosted their annual gathering around the Christmas Tree Wednesday evening, where victims of crime and their families honored their loved ones no longer with them through prayer, and remembered them through memories. The Christmas Tree is decorated with ornaments of VOICE members’ loved ones.
The Patterson Lumberjacks outscored St. Martinville 27-18 in the second half for a 48-42 victory in first-day action at Patterson’s Advance Physical Therapy Lumberjack Invitational.
While Patterson trailed 24-21 after being outscored 17-10 in the second period, the Lumberjacks responded with a 15-8 scoring advantage in the third quarter for a 36-32 lead after three quarters. The Lumberjacks outscored St. Martinville 12-10 in the final period.
Tyrone Tillman led Patterson with 18 points. Other Patterson scorers were Kai Schexnayder, nine; Elijah Williams, five; Drew Lucas, Irvin Celestine and RJ Talver, four each; and Dajon Richard and Kamiah Jones, two each.
Patterson (5-1) will return to action Friday when it meets Jeanerette in a 6:30 p.m. contest. The Lumberjacks will conclude the tournament Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. contest against South Lafourche.

Central Catholic Jeanerette in three of four quarters en route to a 70-56 victory in first-day action at Patterson’s Advance Physical Therapy Lumberjack Invitational.
While Central Catholic took a 22-12 lead after a period of play, Jeanerette responded with a 19-10 scoring advantage in the second quarter to cut its halftime deficit to 32-31.
Central Catholic responded with a 20-13 third-quarter scoring advantage for a 52-44 lead after three quarters.
The Eagles shot 23 of 41 from the free throw line, while Jeanerette was 7 of 11 from the charity stripe. The Tigers made seven three-pointers, and Central Catholic hit five three-pointers.
Elijah Swan led three Eagles in double figures with 24 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Brooks Thomas, 17; Taylor Blanchard, 14: Davidyione Bias, six; DJ Lewis, five; and Seth Williams, four.
Central Catholic (3-1) will return to action in the tournament Friday when it meets Berwick at the tournament in an 8 p.m. contest. Saturday, the Eagles will play St. Martinville at 2 p.m.

South Lafourche
The Berwick Panthers fell to South Lafourche 57-54 at Patterson’s Advance Physical Therapy Lumberjack Invitational Thursday.
While Berwick trailed 10-8 after a quarter and 29-18 at the half, the Panthers trailed just 40-36 after three quarters.
While the Panthers outscored South Lafourche 18-17 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough.
Each team hit seven three-pointer. Josh Carver, who led Berwick with 23, led the Panthers with six three-pointers. Other Berwick scorers were Travis Whitehead, 11; Tavaris Howard, nine; Patrick Robertson, six; Dayton Clark, two; and Donald Tillman, one.
Berwick (3-6) will return to action Friday in the tournament when it meets Central Catholic in an 8 p.m. contest. Saturday, the Panthers will face Jeanerette in an 11 a.m. contest.

Breaux Bridge
The Morgan City Tigers’ six-game winning streak came to an end Thursday as the squad lost to Breaux Bridge 73-65 in New Iberia’s tournament.
While the game was tied at 14 after a period of play, Breaux Bridge outscored Morgan City 19-6 in the second period for a 33-20 halftime advantage. Breaux Bridge extended its lead to 52-38 after three quarters. Morgan City outscored its opponents 27-21 in the fourth period, but it wasn’t enough.
Taaj Daniels led Morgan City with 21 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Tywaun Walker and Kerwin Francois, 11 points each; Ke’Sean Francois, nine; Jared Singleton, seven; Morrquise Charles, four; and Tyson Boatman, two.
Morgan City (9-2) will return to action Friday in the tournament when it faces Northside in a 5:30 p.m. elimination game.
CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary Parish School Board is reaping the benefits of renovations as the board was refunded by Cleco through its Schools and Cities Program.
Brad Wiese, supervisor of maintenance, presented copies of the energy efficiency incentive checks sent to the school board Thursday during the monthly meeting for approval to accept the funds.
The school board was refunded $2,593.94 as incentives from Cleco for energy efficiency renovations done for Patterson High School, Berwick High School and Berwick Elementary. Renovations done to the schools were on the heating and air condi-tioning systems.
The board also voted to add a restroom to the second floor of the old Patterson Junior High School while current renovations to the old building are being made.
“It has been requested by a lot of teachers and administration that a second floor bathroom be added for a case of emergency in the event of a sick child or teacher,” said Wiese.
The cost of the restroom addition is $22,000.
Also at the school board meeting, Clarie Crochet of J.S. Aucoin Elementary School, Benjamin Robicheaux of LaGrange Elementary School and Ruston Bertrand of Franklin High School were recognized as Students of the Month. Sarah Elrhanjaoui of Aucoin Elementary, Adrienne Minor of LaGrange Elementary, and Bridget Madison of FHS were recognized as Employees of the Month.
J.B. Maitland Elemen-tary and M.E. Norman Elementary schools were both recognized for its achievement of excellence in the Early Childhood Program.
“The scores for every dimension in our pre-K Head Start programs were higher than the state average,” said Almetra Franklin, CEO of the St. Mary/Vermillion Community Action Agency and Head Start Program.
Josie Carrier of Ber-wick High School was recognized for her art-work being selected as the official St. Mary Parish School Board Christmas Card.
Jammal Weeden, 41, a resident of Patterson, died Tuesday Dec. 5, 2017, at Teche Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by his parents, Charlie Kelly Sr. and Sandra W. Kelly of Patterson; three brothers, Charlie Kelly Jr. of Bayou Vista, and Derrick Kelly and Tramone Scott, both of Patterson; two sisters, Tanya Scott of Patterson and Tia White of New Orleans; a grandmother, Jessie Johnson of Baton Rouge; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and his maternal grandparents.

Albert Stevenson
Albert Stevenson, 70, a native of Gibson and resident of Amelia, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. at Siracusaville Recreation Center in Morgan City. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Stevenson of Amelia; three sons, Shayne Stevenson of Youngsville, Shawn Stevenson of Gibson and Brian Stevenson of Amelia; two daughters, Shannon Stevenson of Gibson and April Jerome of Youngsville; a brother, Allen Stevenson of Thibodaux; three sisters, Gladys Williams of Gray, Ruby Poindexter of Gibson and Mary Stevenson of New Orleans; his grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother and sister.

Calvin Bennett Jr., 70, a native of Thibodaux and a resident of Morgan City, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home chapel in Houma. Burial will follow in Halfway Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Calvin Bennett of Lafayette and Kenyatta Bennett of Morgan City; a granddaughter; his mother, Albertha Johnson Bennett of Thibodaux; five brothers, Oliver Bennett of Schriever, Ronald Bennett, Carroll Bennett and Reginald Bennett, all of Thibodaux, and Wayne Bennett of Houma; four sisters, Jancie Jones and Phyllis Bennett, both of Thibodaux, Cathy Brown of Morgan City, and Patricia Walker of California; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife and father.
