MARK THOMAS MANFRE

Mark Thomas Manfre, 52, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019, in Houston, Texas.
Mark was born on April 28, 1966, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Mario and Karen Manfre. He graduated from Morgan City High School in 1984. Mark earned a Civil Engineering degree from USL in 1989 and both an MBA and Master of Finance degree from Tulane University. In the first 24 years of his career, Mark was a valued employee for McDermott International, where he worked in many capacities, including Project Manager. Mark continued his career in Houston as a Vice President at Universal Pegasus and a Project Director at Superior Energy Services. Mark married his high school sweetheart, Christene Pope, on April 21, 1990. Together they raised two amazing daughters, Elizabeth Katherine, 25, and Margaret Karen, 23, both of whom were sources of tremendous pride.
Mark’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, daughters, extended family and friends. Mark had many talents, most notably as an artist, musician and sportsman. He loved sharing his passions with family and friends. Mark was a life-long devoted Catholic. He was baptized and served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Morgan City, Louisiana. He was a wonderful Godfather to Ryan Earles, Caitlyn Manfre and Hannah McMahon. Mark was a faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick, Louisiana and Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church in Katy, Texas.
Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Manfre. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 28 years, Christene Pope Manfre of Houston, Texas; adored daughters, Elizabeth Katherine Manfre and Margaret Karen Manfre, both of Houston, Texas; treasured parents, Mario Thomas Manfre and Karen Dupuis Manfre of Katy, Texas; brother, Mario Paul Manfre of Katy, Texas; sister, Mary Kay McMahon of Friendswood, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mark was a faith-filled Catholic and beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. His unwavering faith, generosity of spirit, and dedication to family was an example for all. Mark will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 415 Union Street, Morgan City, LA. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with entombment immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles L. Gowland, Sr., a native of New Orleans and resident of Morgan City for 62 years, died Thursday January 24, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Charley was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, cherished by his entire family. He was a man of tremendous faith in Our Lord, with a profound trust in Him that carried him through many of life’s most difficult moments. As a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he was honored to serve as a lector for 13 years. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Morgan City and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.
Charley was a long-time member of the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce and served on its Board of Directors. He was also a member and past president of Rotary. He was a strong supporter of area schools, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and also of youth activities in each of the communities served by his business.
Charley, along with Billy Parker, began Chabill’s Tire Service in 1968. Over the years the company has grown to include 18 locations throughout South Louisiana. Charley was a member of the Louisiana Independent Tire Dealers Association (LITDA) for several years and served on the Board of Directors for the last 20. During his tenure he served as president, vice president and convention chairman. He was also a mentor to young men and women in the tire business. Charley was inducted into the LITDA Hall of Fame in 2009. Chabill’s was honored by the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce with the distinction of Business of the Year and also recognized for being in business for 50 years.
Charley was well known to his family and friends as having a uniquely fun sense of humor making statements that often begged the question, “Is that true?” or “Seriously Pa Pa Gorilla?” He had a special gift for story-telling; a grown-up who never forgot the magic language of childhood and spoke it fluently at every opportunity. Who else had the Three Little Pigs going to the moon!
Charley is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Peggy Cefalu Gowland; his children, Catherine David and husband Tim of Morgan City, LA, Beth Barron and husband Carey of Berwick, LA, Charles L. Gowland, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, and Joanna Marx and husband Jeffrey of Youngsville, LA; and 14 grandchildren, Amanda Barron, Charlie Barron III, Matthew David, Charley Gowland III, Patrick Barron, Rebecca David, Mary Gowland, Mikey Gowland, Luke David, Samantha Marx, Megan Marx, Sarah David, Maggie Gowland and Kimberly Marx. Other survivors include his sister, Judy Edwards and her husband Terry of Baton Rouge, LA; and his brother, Paul Gowland and his wife Susan of Metairie, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred S. “Bill” Gowland and Eloise Piton Gowland of Morgan City; brothers, Wilfred “Bill” Gowland of Baton Rouge, LA and Winfred Gowland of Marietta, GA; and grandsons, Robert Barron and Jacob Marx.
Serving as pall bearers will be his grandsons, as well as, Matt McKay and Dennis Richard. Honorary pall bearers are Paul Conner, Lenny Dartez, Dwayne David, Terry Edwards, Wiley Magee, Dr. Michael Montgomery, Billy Parker, Eric Roundtree and Bradley Schefferstein.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Morgan City Cemetery.

DAVID ALLEN BUTLER GARRISON
David Allen Butler Garrison, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2019 at his residence.
Visitation will be Saturday from noon until services at 2 p.m. at Railroad Avenue Church of Christ in Morgan City. Burial will follow in Nazarene Cemetery in Verdunville.
He is survived by a son, Demeris Granger of Morgan City; his mother, Debra Garrison of Houston; his father, David Butler of Patterson; four brothers, Jermaine Garrison and Cory Levine, both of Houston, Tyran Godeau of Marksville and Daveon Butler of Patterson; two sisters, Tarita Louis of Houston and Gregnisha Bias of Morgan City; his grandmothers, Mary Butler of Patterson and Thelma Bill of Siracusa; his companion; three stepchildren; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers and his grandmother.

Paul Ray Fine, 61, a native of Franklin and resident of Jeanerette, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 at Maison Teche Nursing Care in Jeanerette.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Franklin.
He is survived by three stepsons, Donald Conner and Kim Conner, both of Baldwin, and Arbel Conner Sr. of Baltimore; four stepdaughters, Connie Conner, Shelia Conner and Carlene Conner, all of Franklin, and Gwen Angelle of Morgan City; two brothers, Howard Gabriel of Franklin and Clarence Fine Jr. of Beaumont, Texas; three sisters, Shelia Fine, Earnestine Lumpkin and Patricia Rideaux, all of Franklin; and a host of grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, sisters and a stepdaughter.

Tyrone Williams Sr., 73, a native and resident of Franklin, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. at Triumph Baptist Church in Franklin. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Franklin.
He is survived by two sons, Tyrone Williams Jr. and Deshawn Williams, both of Franklin; a daughter, Evelena Williams of Morgan City; three brothers, Gregory Williams, Charlie Williams Sr. and Rodney Williams Sr., all of Franklin; four sisters, Mary Williams, Charlene Williams, Janice Williams and Jeanette Jackson, all of Houston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers and a grandmother.

Roger Henson Sr., 68, a native of Bayou Vista and resident of Lafayette, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at Opelousas General Hospital.
Visitation will be Saturday, 2-4 p.m., at the home of Roger Henson II, 100 Cherry Bark Lane in Lafayette.
He is survived by a son, Roger Henson II of Lafayette; a brother, Sonny Henson of Patterson; a sister, Brenda Jewell of Tucson, Arizona; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a sister and his parents.
