LSU gymnastics team is No. 2 in NCAA Regionals

BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics team, the Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament champions, heads into the NCAA Regional with a regional qualifying score of 197.865 and the No. 2 ranking.
The Tigers’ RQS jumped almost a full tenth of a point after posting a team score of 198.075 for the third-best score in the history of the SEC meet. It was also tied for the fourth-highest score in school history.
Oklahoma owns the top spot in the RQS with a 198.010. The RQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores — three of which must be from road/neutral meets — dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.
LSU’s scores factored into the 197.865 RQS are the 198.075 at SEC Championships, 197.700 at Arkansas and GymQuarters, 197.975 vs. George Washington and Iowa, 198.150 vs. Florida and 197.875 vs. New Hampshire.
The Tigers’ 198.150 against Florida is dropped, and the remaining five scores averaged to a 197.865.
The vault squad, under assistant coach Bob Moore, continued its streak at No. 1 with an RQS of 49.540. The Tigers have set the top three vault scores in the country over the last two seasons with scores of 49.625, 49.600 and 49.575.
Senior Ashleigh Gnat is No. 1 in the nation on vault with an RQS of 9.970. Gnat owns three perfect 10.0 scores this season, and she is the only gymnast in the country to score a 9.90 or better on vault in every meet this season.
The Tigers also rank No. 2 on beam and floor with an RQS of 49.505 and 49.545, respectively. The bars squad owns the No. 3 spot nationally at 49.415. Individually, Gnat ranks No. 4 on floor and No. 8 on beam. Sophomore Sarah Finnegan also owns a top-five spot on beam at No. 4 with an RQS of 9.945.
At SEC Championships, five Tigers captured SEC Champions to tie the school record for a single meet.
Gnat won vault with a perfect 10, beam with a career-high 9.95 and floor with a 9.95. Sophomore Lexie Priessman won the program’s first SEC Championship on bars in more than 20 years with a 9.95. Fellow sophomore McKenna Kelley clinched LSU’s championship and the individual honor with a 9.95.

Fishing fans get live coverage of 47th annual Bassmaster Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Fifty-two of the world’s best bass anglers will head to Houston next week to compete for more than $1 million in the 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic and fans will be able to follow the action as it happens.
Classic LIVE will be broadcasting in real time from the B.A.S.S. booth at the Classic Outdoors Expo in the George R. Brown Convention Center.
“What an incredible venue we have this year being set up in the heart of Houston, Texas, and watching the action unfold live on a lake that some anglers are saying might produce multiple 10-pound-plus bass,” said Mike McKinnis, vice president of media content for JM Associates and producer of The Bassmasters TV show on ESPN2.
Cameras will be streaming live coverage of the Classic leaders on Lake Conroe back to the expo production facility, where hosts will break down the action for fans tuning in through Bassmaster.com and WatchESPN. Hosts Tommy Sanders, Mark Zona and Davy Hite, along with Dave Mercer and on-the-water reporter Robbie Floyd, will provide analysis and live updates.
This year, special guest Brian Robison of the Minnesota Vikings will also be onsite for the Classic LIVE show to provide some local insight. Robison played for the University of Texas and calls Lake Conroe his home lake.
Special guest RJ Mitte, who plays Walter White Jr. on the series “Breaking Bad,” will be joining the set at the expo.
The 2016 version of “Classic LIVE” reached nearly 12 million minutes viewed during the three-day event.
Each day of competition will have six hours of coverage, 7 to 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Views can watch the tournament leaders catch bass in real time on the exclusive Classic LIVE program on Bassmaster.com and simulcast on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. Facebook Live broadcasts will be added to the coverage this year, on the B.A.S.S. Facebook page, including coverage of takeoff on Day 1, the Toyota Mid-Day Report all three days around noon, and the press conference with the Top 6 anglers after each competition day.
Also on Bassmaster.com, fans can keep up with every fish caught through BASSTrakk, a real-time leaderboard that shows each angler’s catch according to estimates of marshals assigned to each competitor’s boat. In addition, on-the-water reporters provide a running commentary on the action in the Live Blog.
“Through those features, along with videos and photo galleries, we’ll have the lake covered from top to bottom,” said Jim Sexton, B.A.S.S. VP/Digital. “And we’ll cover every inch of the Minute Maid Park weigh-ins and the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo, as well.”

Wedding can wait until fiancé finds job

DEAR ABBY: My fiancé and I have been engaged for two years. Our wedding is set for a year from now. I’m thinking about calling off our wedding, not because I don’t love him, or because I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with him. I know I want that. It’s because I’m the only one with a decent job. He has a job, but doesn’t earn enough to support us. I can’t be the only one earning an income. How are we supposed to move out of our parents’ houses and start a life together if I’m ...
