Health Insurance Exchange’s enrollment period ends Dec. 15

The end of the HealthCare.gov open enrollment period is just around the corner. Whether you are new to the HealthCare.gov exchange or returning, we want to make sure that Louisiana residents who want coverage through the exchange are aware of the Dec. 15 deadline so they don’t miss the opportunity to sign up for 2019 coverage.
The focus for this year, as it was for last year, is to provide a seamless enrollment experience for HealthCare.gov consumers. We’ve made important improvements to customer service this year. We streamlined the application to simplify the process and improved the website’s content to make it easier to understand.
Healthcare.gov has performed optimally, consumers have been able to easily access enrollment tools to compare plans and prices, and the call center’s consumer satisfaction rate has remained at 90 percent.
Since open enrollment began on Nov. 1, more than 29,000 Louisiana consumers have selected a plan in the federally facilitated exchange.
Here are the three things Louisiana consumers need to know:
1. The deadline to sign up for coverage is fast approaching.
Louisiana consumers have until Dec. 15 to sign up for coverage that starts on Jan. 1, 2019. Louisiana residents who don’t enroll by the deadline can’t get 2019 coverage unless they qualify for a special enrollment period. Consumers can visit HealthCare.gov and CuidadodeSalud.gov to preview 2019 plans and prices and sign up for coverage today.
2. Now is the time for Louisiana consumers to go to HealthCare.gov or CuidadodeSalud.gov to update their information or add it for the first time, and select the plan that best meets their needs.
We are encouraging Louisiana residents who need health insurance to join the millions of people who have gone to HealthCare.gov and found health insurance.
The plans on HealthCare.gov are comprehensive and offer:
—Annual checkups at no extra cost.
—Coverage for doctor visits, prescription drugs, and certain preventive care with no out-of-pocket costs.
3. Nationally, average premiums have decreased and the number of plans have increased on the federal exchange for 2019.
For the first time since Healthcare.gov started offering coverage, average premium rates for a benchmark silver plan in 2019 have gone down across the 39 states that use the federal platform. Consumers have more plans to choose from to find the best fit for themselves.
There are 23 more issuers on the federal exchanges for 2019 than there were in 2018. And 29 issuers are expanding their service area into new counties. Consumers should come back to HealthCare.gov to compare plans and prices. They may be able to find a plan that saves them money and better meets their health needs.
Help is available! Louisiana consumers can get help filling out their application in three ways:
—By phone. Consumers can call the exchange’s call center at 1-800-318-2596.
—In-person help. Consumers can use the “find local help” tool on HealthCare.gov to see if they can get in-person help in their community.
—Health insurance agents and brokers. Agents and brokers can help consumers enroll through the exchange or handle the whole process. Search for health insurance agents and brokers by using the “find local help” tool.
Don’t delay. If you want coverage by Jan. 1, 2019, you must sign up by Dec. 15.

She is survived by four daughters (“the Drury girls”), Candace Allen, Cindy Drury Lazzerini, Daria Drury and Angela Drury Christian; one grandson, Even Drury Rusca; and two sons-in law, Edward J. Lazzerini and Albert Christian. Dottie is also survived by two sisters, Inez Dennis Pittman (Pensacola, Florida) and Sue Ellen Woodward of Panama City, Florida; one brother, Jimmie Foreman of DeFuniak Springs; two sisters-in-law, Deanna Foreman (Defuniak Springs) and Juanita Foreman (Pensacola); and one brother-in-law, Woody Woodward (Panama City). Siblings who predeceased Dottie include brothers Billy Foreman, Harold Foreman and Allan Foreman, and sister Jean Fazekas, all of Defuniak Springs. Dottie leaves behind numerous lifelong friends.
After her marriage, Dottie moved to Morgan City, Louisiana, where she and Jay created a wonderful family life for their greatest accomplishment, having four daughters. While handling her most important task, Dottie also became a community leader during her 30 years in St. Mary Parish. Among her most important contributions was her service as President for the following: St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce, the first woman in Louisiana to hold this position; Community Concert Association; and BPOE Ladies Auxiliary. She also served on numerous state boards: Louisiana Waterways Commission, Louisiana Epilepsy Association, Louisiana State Convention of Elks; Louisiana State Convention of Rotary Clubs; the Municipal Auditorium Commission; Louisiana State Philharmonic Society; and Louisiana Board of Directors for the Eastern Seal Society. She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader.
During the spring flood of 1973, Dottie organized her family and friends to assist Colonel Pitre and the Corps of Engineer in their efforts to save their city. In 1974, she was the first woman to address the Annual Meeting of Columbia Artists Management in New York City. In 1979, she was selected one of five Most Outstanding Women in St. Mary Parish and received Gold Keys to both Morgan City and Jefferson Parish.
Talents led her to become a licensed florist and own her own business — Flower Fashions & Gifts — for many years. She penned a weekly column for local newspapers targeted to young people focusing on flowers, fashion and entertaining, wrote reviews for local press covering performances at the Beverly Dinner Playhouse in Metairie, Louisiana, and for three years wrote the Newsletter for the Morgan City Petroleum Club highlighting activities and events. Her social life and hobbies were closely tied to her civic life. She was a member of the Ladies Petroleum Club, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and was chosen as one of three female lecturers for Sacred Heart Church. She and Jay were active members of the Formal Group Club and Les Amis Dance Club. Her love of all things Mardi Gras led to a reign as Queen of Adonis in Morgan City as well as Queen of Excalibur in Metairie. An accomplished seamstress, Dottie always made certain she and her daughters were outfitted in the fashion of the day. She loved cooking and entertaining, and in their private home, she and Jay hosted numerous dignitaries, artists, and politicians visiting the area. Her favorite parties, however, were the endless one she hosted for her daughters and their friends, providing a lifetime of wonderful memories. Dottie loved south Louisiana, finding it a great place to live, thrive, and nurture a family. These years filled the most special time of her life.
Dottie will be laid to rest with her late husband in Morgan City. Services will be arranged by Hargrave Funeral Home and held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, December 17, 2018, with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow at the Morgan City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be provided by the Gentlemen of Adonis, Morgan City. Honorary pallbearers include Sam Jones, Nelson Cortez, Phil Daigle, Ronald Herring, Jimmie Foreman, Tyler Honish, Woody Woodward, Ed Dennis and Bob Kleinpeter.
To all: Laissez les bon temps rouler!
*With love, Dottie

Divorcing mom is grateful for new man’s friendship

DEAR ABBY: A year ago my 13-year marriage fell apart. My husband, “Rick,” will be spending the next six years in prison. I am 32 and have two boys, ages 13 and 15. The last year has been pretty tough for all of us. I’ve been learning how to be both mother and father to them. I am also heartbroken by what he did that landed him in prison. I have filed for divorce, and there will be no reconciliation. I never thought I would be with another man. Rick is the only man I have ever been with. But ...
