Police: Two arrested in burglary investigation
Two men were arrested Friday in connection with a burglary investigation in Morgan City, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—John Wayne Ross, 50, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:11 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with possession of stolen property and a charge of simple burglary.
—Randy Germone Clark, 32, of Eleventh Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:08 p.m. Friday on a charge of possession of stolen property.
Detectives began an investigation of a burglary of a storage building Thursday. Investigators learned that Ross had committed the burglary, Blair said. After the burglary, Ross and Clark attempted to sell the items on social media.
Officers located Clark on Friday in possession of the stolen items, Blair said. Clark was located at the police department and arrested on a warrant. Ross was also located Friday in the area of Sixth Street and Brashear Avenue and arrested on a warrant.
Blair reported that officers responded to 123 calls and reported the following arrests:
—Keenze Howard, 53, of Front Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with failure to appear in court and contempt of court. Howard was transported from Franklin Police Department to Morgan City Police on warrants. He was jailed.
—Leon Del Angel, 26, of Village Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 2:24 a.m. Sunday on charges of DWI first offense and no driver’s license.
An officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot on La. 182. The driver was identified as Del Angel. The officer suspected driver impairment. He did poorly on a field sobriety test, Blair said. Del Angel did not possess a driver’s license and later registered 0.174 grams-percent blood alcohol content on a chemical test. He was jailed.
—Fancie Ratcliff, 27, of Felicia Street in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 2:29 a.m. Sunday on charges of improper lane usage, possession of marijuana first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of oxycodone hydrochloride and codeine phosphate.
An officer observed a vehicle cross the center line on Brashear Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Ratcliff. During the traffic stop, officers located suspected marijuana, oxycodone hydrochloride, codeine phosphate and drug paraphernalia in her possession, Blair said. She was jailed.
—Shane LaCoste, 45, of Pharr Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Sunday on charges of DWI and careless operation.
Officers received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Front Street and Railroad Avenue. Officers came into contact with the driver of the vehicle who was identified as LaCoste. Officers observed damage to the vehicle and it appeared to have recently been involved in a vehicle crash, Blair said.
Officers learned that the Berwick Police Department was currently investigating a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 90 and suspected the vehicle LaCoste was driving to be involved. Officers also suspected driver impairment.
LaCoste performed poorly on a field sobriety test, Blair said. He refused to take a chemical test at the police department, and police obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was collected and pending test results, Blair said. LaCoste was jailed.
—Jordon Jermaine Watson, 30, of Cherry Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1 a.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with three counts of failure to appear in court.
Watson was transported from Patterson Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on warrants for City Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Eric Chan Harvey, 35, of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:41 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana and resisting an officer.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on La. 182. During the traffic stop, Harvey walked up to the area and began to interfere with officers conducting the traffic stop.
After several warnings, officers attempted to arrest Harvey, who pulled away from officers, Blair said. Officers were able to handcuff Harvey. Officers located suspected marijuana in his possession, Blair said. He was jailed.
—Cyntel McCrae Harris, 33, of Ventre Boulevard in Opelousas, was arrested at 4:26 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers come into contact with Harris in a parking lot on La. 182. During the officers’ investigation, they found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Harris’ possession, Blair said. He was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that deputies responded to 104 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—John Fitzgerald Gibson, 54, of Oak Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Friday on warrants charging him with failure to appear in court. Gibson was located at his home. He was transported to parish jail for booking on the warrant. No bail was set.
—Randy Mark Pinkerton, 22, of Lori Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 6 p.m. Saturday on a charge of burning of trash in a residential area.
On Thursday, a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Lori Lane in Patterson in reference to a grass fire near a home. After further investigation, authorities learned Pinkerton started the fire, Smith said. Pinkerton was issued a summons to appear in court July 29.
—Tayler James Davis, 20, of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 7:23 p.m. Saturday on charges of disturbing the peace by loud noise and two counts of resisting an officer.
Deputies were dispatched to a call of a disturbance at the Bayou Vista skate park. Upon arrival, deputies were flagged down by a witness who told deputies a male subject, who was identified as Davis, was running down Lagonda Street in Bayou Vista.
The witness stated he saw Davis get into a vehicle and flee the area. Berwick police located Davis a short time later in the town limits of Berwick. Davis again fled from officers on foot, the sheriff said.
Davis was apprehended a short time later in a wooded area in Berwick. He was jailed with bail set at $5,250.
Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported the following arrests:
—Trey A. Laubach, 22, of Enterprise Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 2:12 a.m. Friday on charges of DWI first offense and stop sign violation. Laubach posted $77 bail.
—Phillip K. Lodrigue, 39, of Two Sisters Court in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:19 a.m. Saturday on charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and theft. No bail was set.
—Mattie M. Nerve, 54, of Clements Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:03 p.m. Sunday on a charge of disturbing the peace by fighting. Nerve posted $77 bail.
—Don Williams, 42, of Morrison Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:08 p.m. Sunday on a charge of disturbing the peace by fighting. Williams posted $77 bail.
—Jordan Watson, 30, of St. Lucy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:17 p.m. Sunday on a Morgan City police warrant and charges of reckless operation, no or expired driver’s license, general speed law violation and resisting an officer. Watson was transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
Berwick Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported the following arrest:
—Awilder Rivera, 39, of Arcemont Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11 p.m. Sunday on charges of no driver’s license, headlights required and flight from an officer. Rivera posted $2,000 cash bail.
Chitimacha Police Chief Hal Hutchinson reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Jason Ashley, 31, of Iberia Street in Franklin, was arrested April 9 on a charge of domestic abuse battery and a bench warrant for Morgan City Police Department for failure to appear to pay fine for possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court fine. He was transported to parish jail. Officers responded to a tribal business in reference to a disturbance. During the investigation, Ashley was involved and arrested, Hutchinson said.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon the following arrest relating to the area:
—Shelby Jackson Seitzinger, 27, of Heritage Oaks Drive in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested on charges of unauthorized entry of a place of business and simple criminal damage to property.
Early Monday, deputies responded to an alarm at a Bayou L’Ourse lounge, and while there, the deputy observed a vehicle parked on the premises, then noted an individual walking from the building.
The deputy secured the individual and interviewed him. The suspect, identified as Seitzinger stated that he was at the lounge earlier and lost his keys. He stated he returned to look for the keys but the business was closed, so he made entry by forcing open a door, Falcon said. Seitzinger was jailed pending a bail hearing.
Ducking out to the park
All kinds of folks made their way to Morgan City's Lake End Park on Monday to enjoy mid-70s sunshine under a cloudless sky. Tuesday is forecast to be another beautiful day, but a cold front is expected to bring rain, and possibly some severe weather, into St. Mary Parish beginning late Wednesday.

Police: Driver, 92, hospitalized after Berwick crash
A 92-year-old woman was hospitalized Friday afternoon after the vehicle she was driving struck another vehicle on La. 182 in Berwick, Assistant Police Chief J.P. Henry said.
Berwick police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 3:53 p.m. Friday on La. 182 near Boudreaux Street. Police learned that a vehicle driven by Annanell Rhodes, 92, of Berwick, was turning out of the Dollar General parking lot across La. 182 to Patterson State Bank in Berwick when the vehicle struck another vehicle traveling west on the highway, Henry said.
Rhodes was transported via Acadian Ambulance to a hospital. The extent of her injuries was unknown, Henry said. No other injuries were reported in the crash. A citation for careless operation of a motor vehicle with a crash is pending against Rhodes, he said. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.
Community fish fry and sunrise service this weekend

Two community Easter events are scheduled for Friday and Sunday in Morgan City.
The public is invited to a free Community Fish Fry 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at Lawrence Park in downtown Morgan City.
A Way of the Cross will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The fish fry will be hosted by Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church, Walmsley United Methodist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church.
The East St. Mary Ministerial Alliance Easter Sunrise Service will be at 7 a.m. Sunday, also at Lawrence Park.
Everyone is invited; bring your own chair.
If the weather is bad, the service will be at Cornerstone Ministries across from the park.
CALVIN JAMES LELEUX
January 20, 1945-April 13, 2019
Calvin James Leleux, a native of New Iberia and a long-time resident of Berwick, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 74.
Calvin was an avid golfer, outdoorsman and excellent cook. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend. He loved playing poker with his Monday night poker pals and loved the companionship with Dennis, Nick, Jimmy, Dwalyn, Mike D and Mike T. He was an avid LSU, Saints and Los Angeles Dodger fan for 50+ years. Calvin loved spending time with his family and having cook-offs with his sister-in-law Helen and brother-in-law Sonny. Calvin was a brilliant engineer and boat builder at both Sewart Seacraft and Swiftships for over 50 years and loved his coworkers and employees. His business partners, Shehraze and Khurram, were like adopted sons that he cherished like his own son. He began his career as an engineer and worked his way up to ownership through his hard work and dedication. He developed relationships around the world traveling to over 70 countries and placing marine vessels in over 50 countries. Prior to his career in shipbuilding, he was a member of the United States Air Force and worked in the space program.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara Leleux; his son, Jeff Leleux and spouse Angelique; and his daughter, Michelle Denning and spouse Sean. He also leaves behind three beautiful grandchildren that he loved very much, Anna Marie Leleux, Luc Joseph Leleux and Jacob Lee Denning; one brother, Donald Leleux; and one sister, Dorothy Oubre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Anna Leleux; and two brothers, Doris Leleux and Earl Leleux.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Baudry Jr., Rene Baudry, Vernon Overturf, Sean Denning, Ibrahim Aglan and Dennis Taylor.
The family requests that a time of visitation be observed on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from 9 a.m. until time of services at noon at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick. Following services, Calvin will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Dr., Lafayette, LA. 70501, St. Stephen Catholic Church, Berwick Junior High School or Berwick High School.
