Wife keeps bringing up husband’s affair

DEAR ABBY: I have known my husband my whole life. We have been married 20 years and have three teenage children. Last year, I caught him cheating. Turned out he had been with someone for seven years. Our children and I were devastated, and he swore up and down he’d never do it again.
I am occasionally triggered by things I see, things he says or does, or things I know he has done with her. When it happens, I usually bring up the affair again. He can’t stand that I do. He says we have to put it in the past and work on our marriage. I told him this may be easy for him to do, but I’m not that kind of person. I tend to overanalyze and dwell on things.
We have been to marriage counseling, and I was grateful for that because he was always against it. It helped somewhat. I need to know how to stop bringing up these matters because it is ruining my health and our marriage. I love him very much.
One more point: I’m insecure because he is in the military and due to be deployed for a year. I’m afraid he may go online and start talking to someone. He swears he won’t do this to me again and he’s so sorry for what he did.
Please advise.
TOTALLY LOST IN NEW JERSEY

DEAR TOTALLY LOST: I’m glad counseling helped you and your husband through the rough patch.
Now it’s time for some more — for YOU, to help you cope with your insecurity issues. Making yourself crazy over what he “might” do during his year of deployment isn’t helping you or the state of your marriage. You have to make a decision about whether to trust your husband — and then proceed from there.

DEAR ABBY: An acquaintance from 40 years ago contacted me three years ago after, he claims, searching for and finding me on social media.
We have been speaking on and off since then, but he’s now calling every day (sometimes twice a day) saying he’s making travel plans to come see me. He lives in Canada; I’m in Massachusetts.
Way back when, he begged me to sleep with him, knowing I was dating his best friend. His friend was out of town at the time. Shocked and blindsided, I caved under his pressure and acquiesced, and then slept with him a second time. My boyfriend was still overseas, and I couldn’t tell if he had any intention of returning.
This acquaintance has yet to send me even a thorn, much less petal from a rose during the past three years and has ghosted me a number of times.
Should I entertain the idea of seeing him, let alone think there could be anything more?
I’m divorced, my children are grown and I haven’t enjoyed any male company for the last 14 years. All this time I’ve just been tending to my family.
DESIRING MORE THAN CYBERLOVE

DEAR DESIRING MORE: You may be lonely, but please, start thinking rationally. For your own sake, do not become further involved with a man who would seduce a woman who is dating his friend and who has ghosted you “a number of times” in the last few years.
During the periods in which you have been ghosted and lonely, it appears he has been very busy! This person is not to be trusted with your heart or anything else.

School Board picks teacher as interim board member

CENTERVILLE — A Franklin woman with a master’s degree in special education and more than a decade as a teacher will be the next St. Mary Parish School Board member.

The board on Tuesday appointed Debra Roberson Jones as an interim board member to replace Pearl Rack, who resigned from the board Aug. 12.

The board passed a resolution calling for a special election March 25 to fill the seat permanently. If a runoff is necessary, it would be April 29. Qualifying will be Jan. 25-27.

If Jones is to continue to serve as an interim member until the election, she will have to be reappointed again in December,
Superintendent Dr. Teresa Bagwell said after the meeting. When Rack resigned, she also withdrew from the Nov. 8 School Board election, for which she had qualified without opposition.

Rack’s resignation came after qualifying for the November election had closed.

Rack cited personal reasons when she posted a resignation announcement on Facebook. At Tuesday’s special meeting, she told the board that her presence on the board would prevent her daughter, Alexis Rack, from applying for administrative positions in the school system.

“There was an opportunity for my daughter to improve where she was ...,” Rack said. “My first thought was, ‘Man, holding my child back.’”

She described her resignation as “a chance I had to take.”

“My heart is still with the St. Mary Parish School Board,” Rack said.

Board President Kenneth Alfred praised Rack’s service on the board.

“My most favorite characteristic of Mrs. Rack is that she is always prepared,” Alfred said.

Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in early intervention from birth to 5 at Nicholls State in 2007.

Her master of special education came from California’s Ashford Uni-versity in 2016.

Jones worked at Foster Elementary 2007-12 before becoming a special education teacher at Hernandez Elementary in 2012.

After Hernandez was closed in 2016, she became a special education teacher at Iberia Parish’s Westgate High School, where she is still employed.

Her memberships include the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children.

Three arrested in January shooting at Chester Bowles-area home

Two men suspected in the firing of dozens of rounds into a Morgan City home in January have been arrested, the Morgan City Police Department said, and a third has been in custody since last month.

The three men, all from Hammond, face criminal conspiracy and weapons charges.

--Jaicherydan Treell Gutter, 24, Harrell Avenue, Hammond, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. July 26 on charges of criminal conspiracy to aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities.

--Damari Antonio Coleman, 22, Harrell Avenue, Hammond, was booked at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday on charges of criminal conspiracy to aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Morgan City police responded to the shots-fired report Jan. 24 in the Chester Bowles area. Officers found numerous shell casings in the street.

The Detectives Division responded and located video that depicted a black truck entering the area. Four men exited the vehicle, including three who fired at a residence over 35 times. At the time, the residence was unoccupied, the Police Department said.

Gutter was identified as one of the subjects involved in the investigation. A warrant was prepared for his arrest, police said.

On July 26, Gutter was located and arrested by the Berwick Police Department on the active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police Department.

The investigation continued, and investigators were able to uncover evidence further identifying two of the three remaining subjects involved, Andrews and Coleman. Further evidence was uncovered linking Andrews and Coleman to the crime, the Police Department said.

It was also discovered through the investigation that Andrews and Coleman were convicted felons, which means they are prohibited from possessing a firearm. Arrest warrants were prepared for Andrews and Coleman.

The information was turned over to the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations Fugitive Task Force. On Monday, Andrews and Coleman was located and arrested by the task force in the Hammond area. They were both transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Correctional Facility on the active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City police.

They were later transported to the Morgan City Jail and booked on their active arrest warrants.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division at 985-380-4605.

Interim Chief Mark E. Griffin Jr. commended the Detectives Division for the effort in this investigation. He would also like to thank all the agencies who assisted in a collaborative effort: the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Berwick Police Department, the Franklin Police Department, the Hammond Police Department, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations.
