HMS hosts Jeff LeJeune in 'Response to Harvey'

Hanson Memorial invites the community to an evening with author and Hanson Alumnus author Jeff LeJeune.
All proceeds will go to “Student to Student: A Catholic School Response to Hurricane Harvey.”
Jeff LeJeune earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary English Education from McNeese State University in 2001 and a Master of Arts in Literature degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2016. He has served as a high school English teacher and coach for twelve years, including eleven in the Catholic school system. He is now pursuing more earnestly a career as a historian, where his main areas of interest are local memory history, Italian-American history and the history of Catholics in America, especially during World War II.
Jeff says he relished his years at Hanson. He sincerely bled blue and gold and still does. He served as National Honor Society president, yearbook copy editor, and class representative; attended Boys State and Presidential Classroom; was part of the inaugural Tiger Rousers, maniacs who would paint their faces and run around with the Hanson flag at football games and pep rallies. He was named Academic All-State and co-Salutatorian of his class; and earned All-District and All-State honors as a basketball and baseball player, including first team All-State on the court during his senior season. His greatest pride perhaps came when his classmates voted him Mr. HMS in 1996, an honor that, for the young man Jeff was, seemed to reciprocate the love, honor, and respect he embraced for Hanson Memorial, as well as reflect all he tried to do in becoming the most complete human being he could be for both his peers and the younger students on campus. His dream is that young people realize the power they hold, that little people are always watching what they do, and that through God, they can become an army of men and women that make Hanson roar as it should.
The event is set for Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 7-9 p.m. at the school auditorium.
Admission is $25 per person or $35 per couple, which includes the ticket, a signed copy of LeJeune’s book, wine and refreshments and an event poster.
Tickets can be purchased by sending payment to:

Harvey victims welcomed to parish

Parish President David Hanagriff has reached out to Hurricane Harvey victims and businesses.
In a correspondence, Hanagriff wrote, “As rescue efforts in Texas and SW Louisiana continue, our prayers are for the continued safety of your family and friends. St. Mary Parish, no strangers to flooding events devastating Houston and the surrounding region, we understand the long term challenges associated with recovery for both businesses and residents, once the water recedes.”
Hanagriff offered ways the parish can help those affected. “St. Mary Parish, Louisiana is available to assist with the recovery and needs your help. If your company or suppliers have a presence in the impacted region, please extend an invitation to temporarily relocate in St. Mary Parish. For housing accommodations, the parish has single family rentals, apartments and hotels including extended stay available. If families have school age children, displaced by the storm, the parish can offer quality education in its public school system.
“St. Mary Parish is looking forward to assisting you in your time of need,” Hanagriff concluded.
