Week 2: WSM away, FSHS, CHS, HMS play at home

West St. Mary and Opelousas will clash on Thursday while the Centerville Bulldogs, Franklin Hornets and Hanson Memorial Tigers will play at home on Friday in Week 2 of the high school football season.
WEST ST. MARY AT OPELOUSAS (Thursday)
On Thursday, the West St. Mary Wolfpack (0-1) will make the journey to battle the Opelousas Tigers (0-1) with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Donald Gardner Stadium in Opelousas. West St. Mary and Opelousas High will be looking for their first win of the season after coming up short in the season openers. In their opener, the West St. Mary Wolfpack dropped a narrow 19-12 decision to the Abbeville Wildcats on the road in Abbeville. The Opelousas Tigers bowed to the Eunice Bobcats 24-12 in their season opener.
West St. Mary Head Coach Clifton Armelin said his squad “let one slip away” following the loss to the Wildcats.
“I felt it was a good start after having only two days to prepare,” he said. “We didn’t play badly but we had turnovers at the wrong time and we had to deal with the heat. We just let the game slip away from us in a team we were better than. We did real good on defense and our passing game led to our touchdowns. Offensively, we have to get into a rhythm.”
West St. Mary will gear up to face the Opelousas Tigers on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Donald Gardner Stadium in Opelousas in non-district action.
RIDGEWOOD AT CENTERVILLE
Fresh off of its 58-38 season-opening victory, the Centerville Bulldogs will play host to Ridgewood on Friday at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
Centerville, a 58-38 victor over the Northwood Gators in the season opener last Friday, will entertain Ridgewood in its home opener on Friday in Week 2 of the high school season.
Centerville’s Matt LeBourgeois and Jaylon Cookes combined for 30 carries for 246 yards and four touchdowns.
Cookes had 17 carries for 144 yards and two scores while LeBourgeois racked up 101 yards on 13 attemts for two TDs. LeBourgeois also returned a kickoff for an 80-yard touchdown.
Centerville’s Peyton Nash led the Bulldogs in receiving with two catches for 32 yards and one touchdown. CHS quarterback Brandon Gaspard completed 2 of 3 passes for 32 yards and one score.
Centerville’s Morty Frederick ran back a 20-yard interception for a score while punter Peyton Nash averaged 46 yards kick on Friday.
Centerville (1-0) will host Ridgewood (0-0) in Friday’s 2017 home opener at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium in Centerville.
NORTH VERMILION AT FRANKLIN
The Franklin Hornets welcome the North Vermilion Patriots to J. C. Dry Stadium in Week 2 of the high school grid season.
Franklin looks to recover from its season-opening 26-0 loss to the Patterson Lumberjacks on the road on Friday.
North Vermilion visits Franklin Friday for its first taste of action after not playing its season opener.
Franklin will host North Vermilion on Friday at 7 p.m. at J. C. Dry Stadium in non-district action.
MORGAN CITY AT HANSON MEMORIAL
The Hanson Memorial Tigers will play host to the Morgan City Tigers on Friday at 7 p.m. at McCloskey Field.
Hanson (0-1) will entertain Morgan City (0-1) will both teams looking for their first win of the young season.
Hanson Memorial dropped a 35-6 loss to St. Ed’s on Saturday while Morgan City came up on the short end of a 34-7 loss to the Berwick Panthers.
The Hanson Memorial Tigers will play host to the Morgan City Tigers on Friday in non-district action at McCloskey Field at 7 p.m.
