National Night Out Against Crime set for Tuesday in Bayou Vista
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a National Night Out event on Tuesday evening, October 17, 2017 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bayou Vista Community Center located at 1333 Belleview St. in Bayou Vista. We invite all St. Mary Parish residents to come out and visit with the Sheriff’s Office and partners in public safety to help build a stronger, safer parish.
This event is free. Food and snacks will be served.
There will be music and activities for the kids.
Also, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In conjunction with our National Night Out, Chez Hope will be holding a candlelight vigil in honor of survivors of domestic violence and in memory of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence. The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Other agencies participating in the National Night Out are the Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance Services, St. Mary Parish recreation District #3, Claire House, Fairview Treatment Center, Hearts of Hope, United States Coast Guard, Animal Advo-cates of St. Mary, Chez Hope, Bayou Vista Branch Library, St. Mary 911, the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Office of the State Fire Marshal, American Red Cross, and Louisiana Office of Alcohol Tobacco Control.

BENJAMIN A. 'BENNY' GIANDELONE
June 1, 1944-October 15, 2017
Benjamin A. “Benny” Giandelone, 73, a resident of Bayou L’Ourse, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Benny was born June 1, 1944, in Morgan City, the son of Joseph Maurice “Joe” Giandelone and Bernice Morrison Giandelone.
Benny enjoyed a career in sales and management in the oil field for 47 years. He was a great man of faith, and he considered his church family his family just as he did his blood family. He truly enjoyed being the Chaplain for Crossing Place Church; he took great pride in visiting and ministering to those who were sick. When Benny wasn’t ministering to the sick, he loved to be at home spending time with all his animals. Of all the things that Benny did in his life, the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Lane Giandelone and wife Melissa and Kirk Giandelone, both of Labadieville; two granddaughters, Hanna Giandelone and Jenna Giandelone; and one brother, Johnny Giandelone and wife Fern of Morgan City.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bernice Morrison Giandelone; and his wife, Rev. Gale M. Giandelone.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at Twin City Funeral Home with Pastor Den Hussey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Following the services, Benny will be laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery.

John S. Davidson Sr., 86, a native of Marietta, Georgia, and resident of Gibson passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017.
A visitation was held in his honor on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Samart Funeral Home, West Park-Houma (4511 West Park Ave., Gray) from 5 PM till 8:00 PM and Monday, October 16, 2017 at Christian Assembly. A religious service will take place at the church at 11:00 AM.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Morgan City Cemetery at 12:30 PM, ending with military honors.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Knope Davidson, children, Rebecca Ilene Welch (David), Elizabeth “Libby” G. Sample (Ray), Frank K. Davidson (Connie), and John S. Davidson Jr. (Amanda); sister, Gladys “Libby” McCall, and Louise Floyd; grandchildren, Randall, Chad (Amy), Elizabeth (Sam), Kelli (Scottie), Terry David Jr. (Emily), Brad (Ali), Nicolas, Jonah, Zander; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Jesyn, Sophie, Norah, Esra, Virginia, Luke, Addison, David, Ryan, Brennan, and Callie.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank K. and Gladys Nettles Davidson; siblings, Frank K. Davidson, William Davidson, Dorothy Cordell; grand-daughter, April Lynn Davidson.
He retired after 21 years from the U.S. Coast Guard. After retirement, he went to work for Mobil Oil, later worked for Steen Production Services and then founded Davidson Productions. He was a founding and faithful member of Christian Assembly in Schriever, where he helped build the church from the ground up. After retirement, he enjoyed working on his 22 acres of land in Gibson, and was a collector of coins and nautical items. He enjoyed spending time on his tractor who he affectionately named Veronica. He was kind hearted, giving, loving and admired by those who knew him.

DOROTHY POLASKI PHILLIPS
Dorothy Polaski Phillips, 91, a native of Jasper County, Mississippi, resident of Louin, Mississippi, and formerly of Morgan City, died Sept. 18, 2017, at her residence.
Visitation was Sept. 20 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs, Mississippi. Services were Sept. 21 with burial in Antioch Church Cemetery in Louin, Mississippi.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Crocker of Louin, Mississippi and JoAnn Buckley of Lafayette; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands and a daughter.
Colonial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dionne M. Thomas, 46, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Teche Regional Medical Center.

Lafayette takes 48-0 win over CHS Bulldogs
LAFAYETTE _ Lafayette Christian Academy Knights exploded for 20 second-quarter points, earning a 48-0 District 7-A win over the Centerville Bulldogs here Friday.
Undefeated Lafayette Christian (7-0, 5-0) raced outfront by a 7-0 margin in the first quarter before scoring 20 points in the second quarter for a 27-0 halftime cushion.
Centerville (4-3, 0-3) dropped its third straight District 7-A contest on Friday.
Centerville rushed for 161 yards with Jaylon Cooks running 16 times for 43 yards. Cooks also caught one pass for one yard.
Other top rushers for the Bulldogs were: Andrew Cuvillier, 7 for 34; Noah Verrett 12 carries for 41 yards; Morty Frederick, 2 carries 4 yards; Matt LeBourgeois, 7 totes 38 and Braden Gaspard, 1 for 1.

WSM Wolfpack grabs district win from Jeanerette
BALDWIN _ West St. Mary scored 36 points over three quarters, grabbing a 36-24 District 7-2A victory over the Jeanerette Tigers Friday at Wolfpack Stadium.
West St. Mary (3-4, 3-1) built an early 14-8 lead in the first quarter when Desmon Washington rushed 42 yard for a touchdown before Kyjuan Biggles added the two-point conversion to give the Wolfpack an early 8-0 advantage. Washington, who scored three times on rushes of 42 and 76 yards along with a 61-yard screen pass for a score, rushed for nearly 200 yards on the night.
Jeanerette quarterback Mykail Maxie and runningback Dillion Baudoin combined to helped the Tigers knot the score at 8-8 in the first quarter. Maxie scored on a two-yard TD while Baudoin made good on the two-point conversion.
West St. Mary quarterback Taylon Druilhet gave the Wolfpack a 14-8 advantage late in the first quarter on a 2-yard plunge with 27.6 showing on the clock.
Druilhet, who connected on 16 for 27 passes on the night, later found Dondre Johnson for a 28-yard touchdown pass and the two-point conversion, giving the Wolfpack a 22-8 lead with 40.7 seconds remaining before halftime as the Wolfpack extended its lead over the Tigers.
West St. Mary secured a 30-8 lead early in the third quarter when Washington broke free on a 76-yard TD with 8:42 flashing on the clock. West St. Mary’s Tristian Harris set up Washington’s heroic run with a clutch play of his own. On fourth-down, Harris stopped Maxie short, turning the ball over to the West St. Mary offensive unit. On the night, the Wolfpack tallied 484 total yards with 236 rushing yards and 248 passing yards.
On first and 10 from the 24, Washington took the handoff from Druilhet, broke one tackle and sprinted down the left sideline with an escort for a 76-yard touchdown. Druilhet flicked a short pass to Johnson on the two-point conversion, sending WSM ahead by a 30-8 advantage.
Seanathon Sparrow, who had 148 yards with a TD, brought the Tigers within 30-16 of the Wolfpack on a 5-yard run and two-point conversion midway through the third quarter.
A short time later, the Wolfpack secured a 36-16 lead when Washington scored on a 61-yard screen pass with 4:40.3 showing on the clock.
Less than two minutes later, Baudoin scored on a four-yard TD along with the two-point conversion as Jeanerette trailed West St. Mary 36-24 with 2:37.1 lead to play.
West St. Mary moved 3-4 overall and 3-1 in District 7-2A action.
Jeanerette slipped to 2-4 and 0-3 in league play.
West St. Mary will travel to play Thibodaux next Friday while Jeanerette will host Franklin in District 7-2A action.
