Anthony “Chip” Morella, P.T., Cert DN, has completed the necessary continuing education that is required by the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board for a physical therapist to perform dry needling. Morella completed his course work with the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy and is now allowed to use the designation of “Cert. DN.”
“Dry needling is a physical intervention which utilizes filiform needles to stimulate trigger points in a patient’s body for treatment of neuromuscular pain and functional movement deficits,” as defined by the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board. Morella said dry needling is another modality that he will utilize in treating the many conditions he sees involving pain or loss of function of muscles, joints and the nervous system.
A 30-year-old Patterson man was caught with cocaine and methamphetamine after detectives conducted a search warrant at his home, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum said in a news release.
—Brennan Tabor, 30, of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Wednesday on charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of hydrocodone, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug-free zone.
St. Mary Sheriff’s Office narcotics section detectives and members of the Morgan City Police Department narcotics division conducted a search warrant at a home on Hendricks Street.
Detectives located bags of powdered cocaine, methamphetamine, a glass pipe used for smoking illegal drugs and a hydrocodone pill in Tabor’s vehicle, Anslum said.
During the execution of the warrant, detectives seized other illegal drugs at the home, Anslum said. Detectives say arrest warrants are pending from the investigation. Tabor was jailed with no bail set.
Anslum reported that deputies responded to 48 complaints and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Kacy Norman, 32, of Nevada Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of violation of protective orders.
A deputy responded to the call for service and found that Norman contacted the victim via phone violating a court order. Norman was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported that officers responded to 39 calls and reported the following arrests:
—Cortez Francois, 22, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with attempted simple burglary and criminal trespassing.
Francois was located and arrested at the police department on a warrant. The warrant stems from a March 19 investigation when officers responded to the area of Aycock Street in regard to an attempted vehicle burglary.
Francois was identified as a suspect in that investigation. Francois allegedly attempted to gain entry into a vehicle, Blair said. The investigation continued and a warrant was prepared for Francois’ arrest. Francois was jailed.
—Louis D. Topham, 42, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of theft by shoplifting.
Patrol officers responded to a business in the area of La. 182 in regard to a complaint of a shoplifter. Officers arrived and Topham was identified. Topham allegedly took merchandise valued at $25.90, Blair said. Topham was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Ingrid Brown, 33, of North Eighth Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday on charges of stop sign violation and driving under suspension. Brown posted $1,250 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
The Morgan City Easter Egg Hunt was Wednesday at Lawrence Park.
The Patterson Cypress Sawmill Festival’s Miss and Master Sawblade pageant will be held April 8 at the Patterson Area Civic Center. The event is part of the Patterson Cypress Sawmill Festival being held April 6-8 at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.
Boys and girls divisions are available. Entry fee is $40 payable in cash or money order only.
Girls division includes Tiny Miss, 0-23 months; Petite Miss, 2-4 years; Little Miss, 5-7 years , Deb Miss, 8-10 years and Junior Miss, 11-13 years. Boys division includes Tiny Master, 0-23 months and Master Saw Blade, 2-4 years.
Registration times are 8:30-9:30 a.m. ages 0-4 years with the pageant for that age starting at 10 a.m. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for older groups with the pageant for that age starting at 1 p.m.
Attire for participants is Sunday best with age appropriate hair and light makeup (not glitz).
Division winners receive a crown and banner, and are presented at the festival. Alternates receive a placement gift. A fashion and photogenic winners will be presented with a gift. A 4-by-6 headshot may be presented the day of the parent.

This year’s festival will also feature amusement rides, The All American Lumber Jack Show, an arts and crafts show, Classic Car Show, White Tiger Discovery, softball tournament, an old engine display, Cypress Sawmill Festival Shuttle Tours with guest music hosts, live bands and more.
The Cypress Sawmill Festival has also partnered with the Road To 3rd Street — Songs on the Bayou Festival this year for a variety of musical events and guests.
Proceeds from the festival go to the building fund for the Louisiana State Museum—Patterson. The museum features the Wendell-Williams Aviation Collection and the Cypress Sawmill Collection.
BATON ROUGE — Garden insects will be the featured subjects at the Children’s Garden program at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 28.
The Children’s Garden Series presents hands-on activities for 6- to 12-year-olds, said AgCenter fruit and vegetable specialist Kiki Fontenot.
The April program will present “Creepy Crawly, Good and Bad — Having Fun with Insects.”
“Millions of insects are invading our gardens. But don’t panic. Some are good; some are bad,” Fontenot said. “Children will be able to investigate the insects that may be found in their own yards and gardens.”
Attendance is limited, and a $15 fee is required for each child. Reser-vations must be made in advance by email to Angie Wall at angwall@cox.net. Parents or guardians must stay with children during the event.
Participants will receive snacks and garden take-home crafts.
The LSU AgCenter Children’s Garden Series is hosted by the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners. The Botanic Gardens at Burden is located off I10 at 4560 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.

Edward Broussard, age 57, a native and a resident of Jeanerette, passed away on Friday, March 23 at 1:30 a.m. at his residence.
