Chitimacha Police arrest 3

Chitimacha Police Chief Hal Huchinson reported that three individuals were arrested on November 16, for alleged drug-related offenses, after Chitimacha Police Department conducted search warrants on two separate residences on the Chitimacha reservation.
Upon officers’ arrival at one of the residences, they located a vehicle in the driveway, occupied by two subjects.
According to Hutchinson, while the officers were detaining both subjects from the vehicle, there was noticed, a strong odor of burnt marijuana from inside of the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 13 grams of marijuana, approximately 36 pills of MDMA, two packs of cannabis infused candy, numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, a fully loaded 9 mm handgun, and approximately $1600 in cash.
Also, approximately eight grams of marijuana were located in the possession of a juvenile.
Tamon Lockett, 22, of Bollard Street, Baldwin, was arrested on charges of distribution of Schedule I marijuana, possession of Schedule I marijuana, distribution of Schedule I MDMA, possession of Schedule I MDMA, violation of Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Law; Drug Free Zone, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the parish jail.
Sierra Richoux, 18, of Walker, was arrested on tribal charges of unlawful distribution of drugs, unlawful possession of drugs and unlawful production or sale of drugs in drug free zone.
She was transported to the parish jail.
A 17-year-old juvenile of Charenton, was arrested on tribal charges of unlawful possession of drugs and unlawful production or sale of drugs in drug free zone.
The juvenile was released to their parent, on a summons.
Police say additional arrests are likely imminent.
The investigation is reported to be ongoing.

Franklin Police Chief Tina Thibodeaux reported the following arrest:
Charles Boudreaux, 53, of Sanders Street, Franklin, was arrested Tuesday at 12:46 p.m. on a warrant for Third Ward City Court for failure to appear on charges of stop signs and yield signs. Boudreaux was booked, processed, and released on a $78 bond.
Tiger Nash, 19, of Hospital Avenue, Franklin, while incarcerated at the Franklin Police Department, was arrested Wednesday, on a warrant for the charge of felony theft.
Nash was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Chris Baptiste, 50, of Irish Bend Road, Franklin, was arrested Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. on the charge of theft of goods—fifth offense.
Baptiste was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Rennie Danos, 41, of Plantation Drive, Franklin, was arrested Wednesday at 10:32 p.m. on a warrant for Third Ward City Court for failure to appear on charges of criminal trespass.
Danos was booked, processed, and released on a $500.00 bond.
April Phillips, 28, of School House Lane, Charenton, was arrested Friday at 9:51 p.m. on charges of theft—second offense and criminal damage to property.
Phillips was booked, processed, and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Keenze Howard, 53, of Ninth Street, Franklin, was arrested Saturday at 6:20 p.m. on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Howard was booked, processed, and released on a $2,500 bond.
Jared Cowart, 33, of US 90, Jeanerette, was arrested Saturday at 10:27 p.m. on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
Cowart was booked, processed, and held on a $3,000 bond.
Ray Granger, 31, of Caffery Street, Franklin, was arrested Sunday at 4:54 p.m. on warrants for Third Ward City Court for failure to appear on charges of open container, no driver’s license, driver must be licensed and loud music.
Granger was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Joey Jack, 43, of O’Neal Chube Street, Franklin, was arrested Sunday at 6:24 p.m. on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charge of violation of protective order. Jack was booked, processed, and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported the following arrests:
Jessy Eues, 32, of 110 Beadle St., Morgan City, was arrested Tuesday at 12:01 p.m. on the charge of nuisance animal.
Deputies patrolling Amelia were dispatched to a residence on Degravelle Road in reference to a dog complaint. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the homeowner who said the neighbor’s dog barks continuously. The homeowner said it is an ongoing problem that has been reported. The deputies made contact with the neighbor, Eues. Eues was advised of the complaint and was arrested for nuisance animal. Eues was released on a summons.
Jadi Williams, 29, of 614 79 Pines Lane, Bayou Vista, was arrested Tuesday at 9:26 p.m. on charges of no license plate light, driver must be licensed and possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with no operational license plate light. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Williams. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Williams had no driver’s license. The deputy also found a marijuana cigarette on the driver’s side floorboard. Williams was arrested and released on a summons.
Cody Parker, 35, of 178 Shady Grove Road, Patterson, was arrested Tuesday at 11:05 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana, expired license plate and driving under suspension.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with an expired license plate. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Parker. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Parker’s driver’s license was suspended. The deputy also found a marijuana cigarette in Parker’s possession. Parker was arrested and released on a summons.
Niki Neal, 18, of 539 David Road, Morgan City, was arrested Tuesday at 11:31 p.m. on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed two subjects wearing dark clothing and as the deputy approached, one of them dropped something on the ground. The deputy made contact with the subject, identified as Neal, who said he had dropped a marijuana cigarette. Neal also had another partially burned marijuana cigarette on his person. Neal was arrested and released on a summons.
Cory Fernandez, 29, of 120 Terrebonne St., Morgan City, was arrested Tuesday at 5:17 p.m. on charges of improper lane usage and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives were patrolling the area of Bayou Vista when they observed a vehicle cross the fog line twice on La. 182. The detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Fernandez. During the stop, the detectives smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. Fernandez was arrested and released on a summons.
Wilbert Harrison, 34, of 413 Sixth St., Morgan City, was arrested Wednesday at 11:48 p.m. on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling the area of Morgan City observed a male subject standing next to a vehicle and as the deputy approached, the male acted in a suspicious manner. The deputy made contact with the male, identified as Harrison. Through the investigation, the deputy found marijuana in Harrison’s possession. Harrison was arrested and released on a summons.
Tyjuandre Tillman, 27, of 409 East Bollard St., Baldwin, was arrested Thursday at 12:27 a.m. on a summons for failure to appear on the charge of resisting an officer.
A deputy patrolling the area of Franklin was dispatched to a medical facility to make contact with a subject who held an active warrant. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Tillman and advised him of the active warrant. Tillman was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail was set for Tillman.
Angela Barlar, 53, of 103 Marie St., Houma, was arrested Thursday at 1:35 a.m. on charges of no license plate, no proper equipment, turning movements and required signals, possession of Schedule II drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dawn Pledger, 42, of 210 Edward St., Houma, was arrested Thursday at 1:35 a.m. on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule II drug with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies patrolling the area of Morgan City observed a vehicle with no license plate lights fail to use proper turn signals. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Barlar and a passenger, Pledger. Through the stop, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found. Barlar and Pledger were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail was set for Barlar or Pledger.
Curtis Davis, 50, of 491 Fourth St., Franklin, was arrested Friday at 1:04 am on charges of driving under suspension and no insurance.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a car on the shoulder with emergency flashers. The deputy made contact with the driver, Davis. The deputy learned that Davis was driving under suspension and did not have insurance on the vehicle. Davis was arrested and released on a summons.
Jase Rudolph, 22, of 1805 North St., Patterson, was arrested Friday at 2:29 a.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated, open container and improper lane usage.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle driving over the posted speed limit crossing over the centerline and driving in the opposite lane. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Rudolph. The deputy noticed that Rudolph’s speech was slurred and there was a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Rudolph’s person. The deputy conducted field sobriety in which Rudolph performed poorly. Rudolph was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for chemical testing on the Intoxilizer 9000 in which his blood alcohol level tested at 0.206g%. Rudolph was transported to the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center for booking. Rudolph was later released on a $3,250 bond.
Alex Richie, 61, of 1125 Marguerite St. Morgan City, was arrested Friday at 6:21 a.m. on charges of disturbing the peace-intoxicated and resisting arrest or officer.
A deputy patrolling Amelia was dispatched to a medical emergency on Duhon Boulevard. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with two male subjects standing over a man who was lying in the middle of the road. The man, identified as Richie, resisted the deputy when he tried to get him up and out of the roadway. Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene to check Richie’s condition. Richie was transported to the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center for booking. Richie was later released on a $3,500 bond.
Michael Martin Jr., 35, of 1111 Dulles Drive, Lafayette, was arrested Saturday at 6:10 a.m. on charges of burglary-attempted and hit and run.
Harold Sheets Jr., 35, of 511 Everett St., Morgan City, was arrested Saturday at 6:10 a.m. on the charge of burglary-attempted and on a warrant for failure to appear on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling the area of Patterson was dispatched to a residence on La. 182 in reference to an alarm activation. Upon arrival, the deputy was joined by two other deputies and a Patterson Police Department officer, and as the investigation began they noticed that the screens were removed from the windows and another window was broken. The homeowner provided camera access from the incident and two male subjects were identified as Martin and Sheets. The deputies observed that an awning at the residence was hit and damaged by the subject’s vehicle as it left the residence. While conducting the investigation, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a shoplifting call from a local business. Through the investigation of the shoplifting call, Martin was apprehended and Sheets was subsequently located at a residence in Bayou Vista. Martin and Sheets were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail was set for Martin or Sheets.
Richard Giroir Jr., 58, of 101 B Lane 20, Bayou Vista, was arrested Saturday at 11:32 a.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on charges of hit and run and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
Deputies patrolling Bayou Vista observed two males pushing a cart containing merchandise from a local business, in the middle of the road. The deputies made contact with the men and through the investigation learned that one of the men, Giroir, held an active warrant for his arrest. Giroir was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $500.
Cartney Price, 29, of 202 Gloria St., Thibodaux, was arrested Saturday at 8:19 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no tail lights.
Deputies patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with a broken tail lamp. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Price. Through the stop, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found. Price was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Price was released on a $3,750 bond.
Stephen Castleberry, 63, of 1301 Taylor St., Kenner, was arrested Sunday at 1:21 p.m. on charges of driving under suspension and expired license plate.
Deputies patrolling Amelia were investigating an auto crash that occurred on the US 90 at Siracusa Highrise when they made contact with Castleberry, a driver of one of the vehicles. Through the investigation, the deputies learned that Castleberry’s license was suspended and his license plate was expired. Castleberry was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Price was later released on his own recognizance.

Jared Young “J.Y.” Simon, Jr., 88, a resident of Verdunville, La. and native of Centerville, La., passed away Monday, November 19, 2019 at 11:26 p.m. in Lafayette, La.
“J.Y.,” as he was known to many, was a veteran of the United States Army, receiving both a Purple Heart during the Korean Conflict and a honorable discharge.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday November 28, 2018 at Jones Funeral Home 1101 Main Street Franklin, La., from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Reverend Terry L. Joseph Sr. will officiate the services. Burial with Military Honors will follow funeral services in the Nazarene Cemetery in Verdunville.
Memories of “J.Y.,” will forever remain in the hearts of his son, Ronald (Catrina) Gunner of Lafayette, La.; Nelvin (George) Coleman of Patterson, La. and Dionne (Leroy) Washington of Lafayette, La.; one brother, Theodore (Terri) Simon of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Delores Wiley and Geraldine Johnson both of San Bernardino, CA; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Two longtime Morgan City leaders pass away

Two former longtime Morgan City political leaders passed away over the weekend.

Larry Bergeron, 77, a former chief administrative officer for Morgan City government and an ex-city councilman, died Friday.

Gary Duhon Sr., 72, a commissioner of the Morgan City Harbor and Terminal District and ex-St. Mary Parish councilman, died Saturday at his home after a battle with cancer, according to their obituaries.

Duhon had served as a port commissioner for a total of over 14 years.

He submitted his resignation letter from the board in October due to his declining heath after serving since June 2014. He was previously on the board from November 1989 until January 2000. Duhon was on the parish council from 2004-11.

Port Executive Director Raymond “Mac” Wade served on the port board with Duhon in the 1990s.

“We lost a very good friend and a very good board member who was very active with the port for many, many years,” Wade said.

Bergeron served as CAO of Morgan City during the mid-1980s and then again in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. He was also a city councilman from January 2005 until January 2013.

Former Morgan City Mayor Tim Matte hired Bergeron as CAO for his first two terms as mayor.

“Larry has always demonstrated a very sincere desire to serve,” Matte said. “Being chief administrative officer is a job. But his approach always was, it was part of service.”

Visitation for Bergeron will be from 9 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City.

For Duhon, visitation will be 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Amelia.

Fatal shooting victim identified

The victim in a fatal Wednesday shooting in Morgan City has been identified as Eric Howard Jr., 20, of Morgan City, Police Capt. Teddy Liner said.

Howard died following a shooting that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Kentucky and Sixth streets, Liner said.

He had initially been transported to Teche Regional Medical Center to be treated but later died from his injuries, Liner said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Morgan City Police Department detectives at 985-380-4605.

The Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill 19th Annual Christmas Tree Festival Exhibit Open House will be held Dec. 11 at the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Christmas trees decorated by children in the area will be on exhibit. Adopt A Family slated Dec. 11

Once a year, St. Mary Community Action Agency Inc. sponsors an Adopt A Family program to support the underprivileged families in its service areas.
With the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons drawing near, CAA is preparing for the annual Adopt A Family program.
2018 marks a special milestone: this is St. Mary CAA’s 20th Annual Adopt a Family program that helps families in the Head Start Program with unusual circumstances. Donations carry this program and makes it more special each year. It is also a time to think about others who may not have as much.
The program will be held on Dec. 11 in the Peter Pan Gymnasium beginning at 11 a.m.
The agency will accept donations and sponsors for Adopt a Family 2018 until the day before the event. Donations can be sent to 1407 Barrow St. in Franklin, attention Summer Jones or Claudette Yarber. Also, anyone who wishes to be a sponsor can stop by the agency and fill out a form. All sponsors will be recognized during the program.

City embarks on several events

Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard announced Tuesday at Franklin’s city council meeting a Community Connections Meeting to take place Dec. 5 at City Hall on Iberia Street.
Foulcard touted the CCM as a meeting for anyone in Franklin with “a vested interest in improving communities throughout the city of Franklin.”
It is billed as “an in-depth conversation with Louisiana Housing Corporation’s Executive Director E. Keith Cunningham Jr. and his team of housing experts, about housing and community development opportunities.”
Topics will include: homeownership, housing development, weatherization, energy assistance, rental opportunities, homelessness solutions and housing recovery.
In relation to Franklin’s community development, St. Mary Parish joined several other parishes via Franklin in being adopted into Project Front Yard, a litter abatement and community beautification effort that has been going on across Acadiana for five years.
Through a letter from the office of Lafayette Mayor-President Joe Robideaux, Alzina Burrell, of the office of the mayor, explained of the program, “We work to restore communities and neighborhoods through litter abatement, improving street states and revitalizing gateways to our culture by protecting and cleaning our watersheds and waterways.
“We also celebrate by creating more green spaces and allocating economically and environmentally sustainable practices like, ‘zero tolerance’ in waste and recycling.”
Burrell went on to affirm the expression of PFY as a concerted community effort by the citizens of Franklin, to cleanse and beautify the grounds of Franklin for the purpose of making its public spaces inviting and vibrant, starting with our own front yards.
In other business, Diane Wiltz with the Franklin Merchants Association, announced: Mingle and Jingle, an arts and crafts Christmas celebration, will take place Dec. 6, from 5-7 p.m. in downtown Franklin. Merchants will be open two hours later than usual, trolley rides will be available, and ornament painting, mug painting, cookie decorating, pictures with Santa, door prizes and a gift basket drawing will take place.
Wiltz also announced the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts will host a White Christmas Celebration Dec. 7 at the Teche Theatre. She said local talent will be on-hand with beverages available at the concession stand, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the show beginning at 7 p.m.; but, only balcony seats are said to still be available at $10 per-ticket.
Additionally at the meeting, an ordinance was introduced authorizing the City of Franklin to purchase from LBD Properties LLC, “the building commonly referred to as the Old Post Office building located on Willow Street,” and an ordinance was rescinded which designated Clay Street for one-way traffic only.

More details on city Christmas Under the Lampposts

Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard is challenging the public to participate in Christmas under the Lampposts.
“The Franklin Rotary Club has registered a golf cart, and Cub Scout Pack 300 will walk in the parade,” Foulcard said. “At this time, I am challenging other organizations, individuals, scouting groups and businesses to register and take part in the parade.”
Registration for Christmas under the Lampposts ends Friday, Nov. 30 at 12 p.m.
Entry forms for golf carts, lighted bicycles and walkers are available in the Tax Department of City Hall. Registration is free.
If you’d like to decorate your golf cart, but you don’t want to enter the decorating contest, you can still register and participate in the parade:
—Request a registration form without a number, or
—If you pick up your registration form from the Tax Department, don’t put the number attached on your golf cart. Only those golf carts with numbers on them will be judged.
Church groups, school clubs and athletic teams, scouts, youth groups, veterans and community service organizations that choose not to enter a golf cart or a bicycle are invited to participate in the Christmas parade as walkers.
Christmas under the Lampposts will be Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. The theme for Christmas under the Lampposts is “Christmas on the Bayou.”
Line-up for the parade begins at 5 p.m. on Jackson Street. The parade flows from Jackson Street to Main Street to Wilson Street, ending at the courthouse square.
