Three’s too crowded for wife in ‘Shades of Grey’ marriage

DEAR ABBY: I’ve been married to my best friend for nine years. We have our ups and downs, but we’re generally happy. When “Fifty Shades of Grey” came out, I told him I was interested in exploring that scene. He was thrilled because he’s always been in the lifestyle but was afraid to scare me away. Fast forward four years: I no longer wish to be part of it. It’s not for me. I agreed to have a live-in submissive with the understanding that she leaves if I say so. But he’s now calling me selfish for suggesting it be ...

The state Department of Transportation and Development estimates the work to take place from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. All permit and oversize loads along with emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass.

Atchafalaya Golf Association Super Bowl Shamble winners

The Atchafalaya Golf Association conducted its first event of the year, the Super Bowl Shamble, Saturday at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild near Patterson. The event involved three-player teams, randomly drawn, playing a shamble format and recording the best one score on 12 holes and the best two scores on six holes. Tournaments will be planned regularly throughout the season, and players earn points toward eligibility in the year-ending Atchafalaya Golf Association Cup.

MCHS drops heartbreaker to Hannan 5-4

A furious second-half comeback by the Morgan City Tigers proved all for naught as Archbishop Hannan scored a goal late in the teams’ Division III first-round playoff contest for a 5-4 victory.
While Morgan City trailed 3-1 at halftime, the Tigers scored two three second-half goals, including one by Denis Benitz-Lopez to tie the game a 4 around the 65th minute of play.
However, Archbishop Hannan responded with 4:40 remaining in the contest with a goal by Henry Nader for a 5-4 victory.
“They outworked us,” Hannan Coach Trey Labat said Saturday. “They were first to every ball, and to be honest, they deserved to win. We deserve to be out of the playoffs right now. The fact that we’re going to be playing next week comes down a lucky bounce here or there. My team, I thought, played extremely poorly. We let them back in the game due to a lack of effort, a lack of composure.
“To be honest with you, we looked like we were scared,” Labat said. “We played like scared little boys today instead of Hannan Hawks soccer players, so a lot of credit to Morgan City. They got some good players, and to be honest with you, they deserve to be playing Parkview Baptist next week, not us.”
Morgan City’s second-half comeback featured a goal less than seven minutes into the second half to cut Hannan’s deficit to 3-2.
While Hannan countered with a goal nearly six minutes later by Logan Forjet, Morgan City came back with two more goals, one by Benitz-Lopez after he chased down a long pass approximately three minutes later to cut Hannan’s lead to 4-3 and again around the 65th minute after Benitz-Lopez collided with the goalie and knocked the ball in.
“No disrespect to them, but I still think we were a better team,” Morgan City Coach Trevor Patterson said. “They’re ranked No. 11. That doesn’t mean everything all the time because they’re higher.”
Patterson said he told his team in the second half that they would have to raise their intensity.
“We did, but when you’re pushing more (people) up and more up, that leaves less (people) in the back and the goals they have … were just them being in the right place at the right time, not because they were a better team,” Patterson said.
In the first half, Hannan took little time to get on the scoreboard as Victor Harvey ran down a pass from a teammate and scored for a 1-0 Hannan lead less than four minutes into the contest.
Hannan scored two more goals within approximately two minutes, the second one by Gavin Keim via a free kick from 30-plus yards.

Sheriff: Purse snatching suspect caught

An Amelia purse snatching suspect was caught Monday after deputies responded to a burglary complaint, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith said in a news release.

Tommy Harding Jr., 29, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 3:53 p.m. Monday on charges of simple burglary, possession of stolen things, resisting arrest or officer, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, purse snatching and contempt of court.

Deputies were investigating a complaint of a burglary at a home on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia when Harding was developed as a suspect. Investigators determined that Harding had entered a home and had stolen several items, Smith said.

While deputies were searching for Harding in the area, they were notified by the complainant that Harding had returned to the scene. Deputies quickly set a perimeter and were able to make contact with Harding and take him into custody. Harding was in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia at the time of arrest, the sheriff said. Harding was jailed with no bail set.

At 1:30 am Saturday morning, deputies responded to a purse snatching complaint at a local business in Amelia. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with business personnel and a female who had her purse snatched by a male subject who ran outside and fled on a white and pink bicycle. Moments later, another business patron made contact with the suspect but was unable to detain him.

Deputies canvassed the area and located the victim’s smashed Iphone8, her phone case, and other personal items. These items were located at 143 Friendship Alley, which is an abandoned trailer. Detectives were called to assist.

Through the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Harding.
