Central Catholic wins second straight

Central Catholic, which struggled to a 1-4 start, is suddenly on a roll.
The Eagles scored a 34-13 victory Friday over District 7-1A rival Centerville.
The other East St. Mary teams continued to find the going tough. South Terrebonne defeated Morgan City 38-14, Erath blanked Berwick 49-0 (see related story) and Belle Chasse was a 57-19 victor over Patterson.
Elsewhere in the parish, West St. Mary won the Fire on the Bayou game with Franklin 14-8, and Covenant Christian beat Hanson Memorial 56-6.
This week’s action starts Thursday, when Patterson looks for its first win of 2025 at 1-6 Berwick. Also Thursday, 1-6 Centerville hosts 1-5 Hanson.
On Friday, Morgan City, 1-6, plays its homecoming game against South Lafourche, 4-3. Central Catholic, 3-4, is at 6-1 Riverside Academy.
Franklin, 2-4, is at home against Houma Christian, 1-7. And West St. Mary, 6-1, hosts Delcambre, 4-3.
Central Catholic 34,
Centerville 13
Two of Xailen Hebert’s four passes went for touchdowns to Landon Ramagos and Hayden Walker, while James Sanders rushed for 111 yards and a score.
Ramagos caught three of Hebert’s passes for 39 yards, including one 32-yarder. Hayden’s TD reception was for 49 yards.
On the ground, Sanders averaged nearly 11 yards a carry. Walker picked up another 66 yards on 12 trips.
Bryan Wiggins was good for a 22-yard carry, Ramagos rushed for 16 and Hebert finished with 4 ground yards.

Berwick loses to Erath

After a losing their fifth game of the season last week against Covenant Christian, Berwick set out to get things back in the right direction against Erath.
Instead, Erath beat the Panthers 49-0 and remained undefeated.
Erath took a very early lead in the game when Landon Lemaire returned Berwick’s opening kick for a touchdown.
On Berwick’s first drive, the Panthers tried to make some special teams magic of their own, attempting a fake punt. But it backfired on the Panthers. The Bobcats started the drive with excellent field position, and a few plays later, Lemaire scored a 28-yard rushing touchdown.
Erath would then score five more touchdowns in the first half. Berwick was able to hold the Bobcats to no points in the second half and and might be able to build on that performance heading into next week’s matchup against Patterson.
The Panthers take on Patterson at home on Thursday. Patterson currently does not have a win on the season but does have some close losses. The match-up looks to be a good one between the two rivals.
