Work on water plant officially begins

Patterson officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for the city’s new water treatment plant. It will replace the current plant that’s over 70 years old. The city issued $6 million in bonds in 2012 and 2013 to pay for the plant.

Construction is estimated to require nine months to a year. Patterson will build a non-conventional water plant, meaning that fewer chemicals are required to treat drinking water that comes from the Lower Atchafalaya River.

Neighborhood Watch meeting

The Morgan City Police Department will host a Neighborhood Watch meeting Wednesday for the area bordered by Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard to Aycock Street and from Allison Street to Railroad Avenue.

This area covers Wyandotte and Walsh subdivisions, and Park Road area to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at Wyandotte Elementary School.

Anyone who lives in this area or wishes to get information regarding hosting a meeting in their own neighborhood should try to attend. All residents and businesses are invited to attend. For more info, contact Lt. John Schaff at 985-380-4605.

Police Reports 4-5-17

Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrests:
Kevin Farrington, 25, Hayes Road, Houston, Texas, was arrested on Tuesday, at 12:49 a.m., on the charge possession of Schedule I narcotics – marijuana – first offense. Farrington was released on a $2,000 bond.
Mitchell Guilbeau, 22, Martin Luther King Boulevard., Franklin, was arrested on Tuesday, at 1:50 p.m., on the charges of simple assault and parole violation. No bond is set.

DAWN FALLON DENNIS

Dawn Fallon Dennis, also known as Martha Dennis Price, 70, a native of Glencoe and resident of Franklin, passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at Otis Mortuary Chapel, 501 Willow St., Franklin, and will be officiated by Rev. Preston Watson.
She is survived by brother, Howard Dennis of Franklin; niece and godchild, Melissa (Keith) Stewart; 11 nieces; eight nephews; and cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Price Jr.; parents Joshua and Katheleena Dennis; and two brothers, John Dennis and Richard Dennis.

GWENDOLYN LEE GUY BOWIE

Gwendolyn Lee Guy Bowie, 65, a resident of Four Corners, La. and a native of Franklin, La., passed away on Thursday March 30, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. at Canon Hospice in Jefferson, La.
Visitation will be observed on Friday April 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church 145 Prevost Road Baldwin (Ashton Area). La. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 A.M, the Reverend Sam Wise will serve as the Officiant. Committal Services and Burial will follow funeral services in the Sorrel Community Cemetery in Sorrel, La.
Memories of “Gwennie,” as she was known to many, will forever remain in the hearts of her two daughters, NeKesia J. Bowie of Franklin, La. and LaToyia (Brad) Dowell of Tylertown, Miss.; two grandchildren, Airen and Ariyon Dowell of Tylertown, Miss.; five sisters, Barbara Johnson, Sandra (Wesley) Dumas, Cheryl (Michael Sr.) Lewis of Franklin, La., Lorris Kelly of Abbeville, La. and Patricia (Andrew) Singleton of Lafayette, La.; two brothers, Rodney (Tammy) Guy of Baker, La. and Louis Darby of Franklin, La.; two uncles, James (Patricia) Booker Sr. of Beaumont, Texas and Manual Booker Sr. of Franklin, La.; a great aunt, Melveola Guy of Franklin, La.; a godchild, Quinton Paul of Baton Rouge, La. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

TIMOTHY C. BAUDOIN

February 24, 1938 – April 3, 2017
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin for Timothy C. Baudoin, a native and former longtime resident of Franklin and current resident of Verdunville, who passed away at the age of 79 on Monday, April 3, 2017, at his home. He will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery. Pastor Patrick Dopson of The Crossing Place Fellowship will conduct the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be his sons, Timothy John Baudoin and Micah Baudoin, sons-in-law, Jack Darden and Shayde LeBlanc, and grandsons Matthew Darden and Brock Baudoin. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Joshua Baudoin, Gavin Baudoin, and Ethan LeBlanc.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation held Friday at Ibert’s Mortuary from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Marvel Luke Baudoin; four children, Timothy John Baudoin and his wife Stephanie, Tammy B. LeBlanc and her husband Shayde; two sisters, Mary J. “Sissy” Wallace and Lorin Browning; 13 grandchildren, Brock, Joshua, and Jordyn Baudoin, Matthew, Magdeline, and Gage Darden, Taylor, Lorin, Kaitlyn, Gavin, and Luke Baudoin, and Ethan and Ella LeBlanc; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester C. Baudoin and Iris Elizabeth Schoenstein Baudoin; and an infant brother.

He is survived by his sons, Melvin Davis, Kerry Davis, both of Franklin, and Robert Gabriel and Rogers Gabriel, both of Morgan City; daughters, Tammy (Terry) Thomas, Maxine Randle and Vivian (Leonard) Matthews, all of Franklin, Terry Dwyer of Jeanerette and Sarah Gabriel; brother, Eugene Davis of Franklin; 30 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his former wives, Laura Davis and Mandy Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lelia Mae Shepherd Elair, 94, a native of Bayou Sale and resident of Verdunville, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 1:19 p.m.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 Main St., Franklin, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow funeral services in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville. Rev. Phillip Braziel will officiate the services.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Elair and Sidney Elair, both of Verdunville; daughters, Mary Sterling of Centerville and Edna Ayers of Verdunville; fifty-four grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, one daughter, one brother, one sister and four grandchildren.

WILLIAM STOKES JR.

William Stokes Jr., 51, a native and resident of Morgan City, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2014.
Services were completed.
He is survived by daughter, Lakisha Butler of New Iberia; his dear friend of many years, Robin Gruhlkey of New Iberia; one grandson of New Iberia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, his parents and one brother.
