Work on water plant officially begins
Patterson officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for the city’s new water treatment plant. It will replace the current plant that’s over 70 years old. The city issued $6 million in bonds in 2012 and 2013 to pay for the plant.
Construction is estimated to require nine months to a year. Patterson will build a non-conventional water plant, meaning that fewer chemicals are required to treat drinking water that comes from the Lower Atchafalaya River.
