Memorial Day ride

Participants in the freedom ride leave American Legion Post 242 on Monday for their next stop in St. Mary Parish. The freedom ride was put on by American Legion Riders Post 328 in Pierre Part and participants traveled to all Blue Star Markers throughout St. Mary Parish to honor fallen veterans. EUGENE I. 'GENE' DREHER JR.

February 1, 1935 — May 25, 2019
Eugene I. Dreher Jr., “Gene”, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 25, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born February 1, 1935, the son of Eugene I. Dreher Sr. and Palmire W. Dreher.
Gene was a 1952 graduate of Morgan City High School. After graduation, he attended Louisiana State University and completed his studies at the University of Mississippi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1956. Gene served the Morgan City community at the Morgan City Clinic Pharmacy for over 60 years. He was a life-long member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason and a Shriner.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn A. Dreher of Morgan City; one son, Eugene I. Dreher IV and wife Jennifer of Berwick; one daughter, Nancy K. Dreher of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Kathryn H. Wildey, Joan A. Dreher, Jenna V. Dreher and Katherine E. Dreher; and one great-grandchild, Olivia R. Wildey.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Palmire Dreher; and one sister, Patsy D. Ellzey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Gene’s memory be made to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association. This can be accomplished through the website “cmtausa.org”, or by mail to The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, P.O. Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City with Pastor Ann Sutton officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 9 a.m. until the time of services. After services, Gene will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery Mausoleums.

EDWARD WILSON VOISIN

Edward Wilson Voisin, 59, a resident of Berwick, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at Teche Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Voisin of Berwick; and three children, Shane Voisin of Lumberton, Texas, Amy Boudreaux of Berwick, and Jonathan Voisin of Morgan City
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until services at noon at Hargrave Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Morgan City Cemetery.
Hargrave Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CRYSTAL ANNETTE DUGAR

Crystal Annette Dugar, 46, a native and resident of Patterson, died Thursday, May 23, 2019.

TILTON NOEL DRISKILL JR.

Tilton Noel Driskill Jr., 75, a native and resident of Berwick, died Friday, May 24, 2019.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Driskill of Berwick; and two daughters, Jessica Kern and Dana Bourgeois, both of Thibodaux.
Services were Monday at Hargrave Funeral Home with burial in the Berwick Mausoleum.
Hargrave Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ALICE MAE GANT HARRIS

Alice Mae Gant Harris, 77, a native of Patterson and resident of Morgan City, died Monday, May 28, 2019, at her residence.

Bollinger delivers fast response cutter

Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the USCGC William Hart, the 34th fast response cutter to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard took deliver May 23 in Key West, Florida.
The 154-foot Sentinel-class fast response cutter has a flank speed over 28 knots, state of the art command, control, communications and computer technology, and a stern launch system for the vessel’s 26-foot cutter boat, Bollinger said in a press release.
This vessel is named after Coast Guard Hero William Hart. In November 1926, while assisting a crew abandon ship due to heavy seas and treacherous weather, Hart skillfully maneuvered his boat near the tug and took off the crew. While doing so, one member of the crew of the tug fell overboard and was in imminent danger of drowning.
Hart jumped overboard and affected the rescue at great personal risk. For his heroic and selfless action, Hart was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal on May 24, 1927.
