Berwick's Jones and Carver earn all-state track and field honors

Berwick High School had two members of its track team record a combined four marks that landed them Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State Track and Field team honors recently.

Berwick High School's Kenan Jones received a visitor at track and field practice Monday from Chet Broussard, who stopped by to congratulate Jones on breaking his school-record high jump mark. Broussard was the long-time record holder with a mark at 6 feet, 9 inches, a record he set in 1982. Jones broke that mark Friday at the E.D. White Catholic Relays with a leap of 6 feet, 9.25 inches. Berwick record holders meet

Berwick High School's Kenan Jones, congratulated by Louisiana High School Athletic Association Executive Director Eddie Bonine after winning Class 3A Outstanding Athlete honors at the state track and field meet last May, began his final outdoor season with a strong start, setting records in the long jump, triple jump and high jump at E.D. White's Catholic Relays Friday. Jones broke the meet records in all three events, while he also set a new Berwick high jump record at 6 feet, 9.25 inches, breaking Chet Broussard's 1982 mark of 6 feet, 9 inches. Six area players earn LSWA Class 3A All-State recognition

Six Tri-City area players earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State recognition.
Berwick High School had four selections, while Patterson had two.
