It’s August in Louisiana, and we don’t recommend doing much in the garden or, shall we say, not much in this heat. Right now, it’s enough of a chore to help our struggling plants survive.

It’s that time of year. The deciduous trees are putting on their leaves. The oaks and pines are producing copious amounts of pollen. Live oaks are shedding leaves to put on new growth.
After they bloom indoors, you may plant amaryllis bulbs in the garden where they will make long-lived plants that bloom in spring. Amaryllis planted in the garden will get into their natural cycle and bloom in following springs.
