The Morgan City 10-year-old All-Stars fell to the elimination bracket after falling to Ville Platte at the Louisiana Dixie Youth Minors South Regional in Vidalia Sunday.
No individual statistics were available from Sunday’s contest.
Morgan City will continue tournament play Monday with another elimination game as the squad will face North Sabine at 5:30 p.m.
Morgan City started the weekend with consecutive wins as it defeated the Gonzales Nationals 9-2 Friday and Bossier City 8-7 in seven innings Saturday.
In Saturday’s win, Morgan City scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lucas Pickens walked with one out, stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball and scored the winning run on a passed ball with the batter, Jamyre Bias, facing a 2-2 count.
Morgan City tied the game at 7 in the bottom of the sixth when Tate Fontenot scored on a hit by Jade Oliney.
Noah Guarisco earned the win in relief, throwing four innings.
Oliney led Morgan City with a 1-for-2 performance with an RBI. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors were Bias, 1-for-3 with an RBI; Fontenot, 1-for-2; and Bryan Cordero, Chaz’ Pickens, Kollin Nelson and Franco Saleme, each an RBI.
Friday, Morgan City defeated the Gonzales Nationals 9-2.
Chaz’ Pickens earned the win.
Offensively, Lucas Pickens led Morgan City with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors were Chaz’ Pickens, 2-for-2 with four RBIs; Landyn Ramagos, 2-for-3; Bias and JaKavior Kemp, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Cordero, 1-for-1.
SMC avoids elimination in Shreveport
St. Mary Central stayed alive in the Louisiana Dixie Youth Majors North Regional, holding off Jena 9-6 Sunday in Shreveport.
St. Mary entered the bottom of the sixth ahead 9-3, but Jena scored three runs in its final at bat.
The squad could get no closer, though, as St. Mary Central eliminated them from regional play.
Early on Sunday, Jena led 2-1 after an inning before St. Mary Central tied the game at two in the bottom of the second.
St. Mary Central took a 7-2 advantage in the bottom of the fourth, and scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth after Jena had cut its deficit to 7-3 in the top of the fifth.
Dawson Richard earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk, one hit batter and 11 strikeouts.
Offensively, Thomas Nini led St. Mary Central with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Other top St. Mary Central offensive contributors were Richard, 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run; Grant White, 1-for-2, two runs; Braden Bourgeois, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a stolen base; Cru Bella, 1-for-3, a run; and Hayden Robinson, 1-for-3.
St. Mary Central will continue play in the elimination bracket Monday at 5:30 p.m. when it meets Mike Miley Playground.
St. Mary Central dropped to the loser’s bracket after falling to West Carroll 5-0 Saturday.
West Carroll scored a run in the first and two more each in the second and the fourth.
West Carroll had just five hits and limited St. Mary Central to one hit.
Three of West Carroll’s runs were unearned as St. Mary Central committed three miscues.
Bella suffered the loss. In 1.1 innings, he surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits with one walk.
Richard pitched 2.1 innings and surrendered two unearned runs on one hit with three strikeouts.
Robinson pitched 2.1 innings and surrendered one hit while fanning three.
White, who finished 1-for-2, had St. Mary Central’s lone hit.
Friday, St. Mary Central run-ruled the Gonzales Americans 16-5 in four innings.
St. Mary Central took a 6-0 lead in the first and extended its advantage to 11-0 after two innings.
Gonzales cut its deficit to 11-3 in the third, before St. Mary Central pushed the lead to 16-3 after the top of the fourth.
Gonzales scored two runs in its final at bat in the bottom of the fourth.
Robinson led St. Mary Central with a 3-for-4 performance with a triple, four RBIs and a run. Other top St. Mary Central offensive contributors were Bella, 2-for-3, with a home run, two RBIs and three runs; Richard, 1-for-2, a home run, three RBIs and two runs; Zachary Kitchen, 1-for-2, two RBIs; Henry Thorguson, 1-for-1, a stolen base and a run; Bourgeois, 1-for-2, three runs; and Luke Tarver and Jack Lipari, each 1-for-2, a run.
Richard, Bella, White and Bourgeois each pitched in the win, combining to surrender five runs — one earned — on three hits with five walks and 10 strikeouts.
