Morgan City man arrested in attempted burglary case

A Morgan City man is accused of attempted burglary in a January incident in Pierre Part, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
—Drake Michael Domingue, 31, Mayon Street, Morgan City, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant alleging simple criminal damage to property (felony) and attempted burglary.
On Feb. 4, a patrol officer received a complaint about an attempted burglary at a Pierre Part-area residence. During the interview, the complainant stated that on Jan. 29, someone entered her residence and caused significant damage to structures. It was known to the complainant that Domingue was the suspect. A warrant for his arrest was issued.
Domingue was arrested Wednesday by Morgan City police and remains incarcerated awaiting a bond hearing.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 29 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made arrest beginning Monday:
—Timothy Ryan Dupre, 28, Lower Beaver Road, Oakdale, was arrested at 2:31 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (intoxicated).

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 37 complaints and made these arrests:
—Rondrick Adam Pierre, 27, Baldwin, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Wednesday on charges of driving under suspension and no insurance.
Pierre was released on a summons to appear June 15.
—Terry Lynn Johnson, 46, Charenton, was arrested at 12:07 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant alleging hit and run. Johnson was released on a $500 bond.
—Carlin David Stelly, 44, Franklin was arrested at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on three warrants alleging failure to appear on charges of possession of methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; special restriction on lamps; operating a vehicle while license is suspended, revoked or canceled; criminal neglect of family; and domestic abuse battery.
Bail has not been set.
—Hope Lynn Delgado, 37, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:57 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of theft. Delgado was released on a summons to appear June 15.

Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 10 complaints over the past 24 hours and made this arrest:
—Malik Johnson, 26, Easy Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant dated Feb. 4 and alleging theft. Johnson was booked, processed and released to appear in 34d Ward City Court.

BETTY SHORT MITCHELL

Betty Short Mitchell, 100, a native of Gibson and resident of Gray, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Houma. Burial will follow at Southdown Cemetery.
She is survived by children, Ezekiel Mitchell of Gibson, David Mitchell Sr. of Texas, Jerry Mitchell of Bayou Black, Della Toussaint of Houma, Deloris Phillips, Dequincey Richardson of Amelia, Viola Jones of Houma, Gloria Jenkins of Morgan City and Isabella Smith of Gray; 33 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Five arrested on fighting, battery charges

Local authorities reported four arrests related to fights and one on an aggravated battery charge over the Mardi Gras holiday, as well as three arrests alleging marijuana possession.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 82 calls for service over the 48-hour holiday reporting period and made these arrests beginning Monday:
—Megan Falgout Archilla, 37, Bowen Lane, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:34 a.m. Monday on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant alleging failure to appear for arraignment.
—Tradesha Lashae Brooks, 26, Ciro Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and switched license plate.
—Russell Blanchard Jr., 34, Allison Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:18 a.m. Monday on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant alleging failure to appear for arraignment.
—Brittany Grizzaffi, 33, Roselawn Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
—Kira Cecile Guillory, 26, Watkins Street, Berwick, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
—Kelly Hamilton, 39, Mallard Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
—Zachary A. Hebert, 25, Laura Drive, Patterson, was arrested at 4:46 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Wilbert Poole, 41, Ramos Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant alleging failure to appear for arraignment.
—Jordan Blandon Perez, 29, Cottonwood Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of aggravated battery.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 48-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 67 complaints and made these arrests:
—Thomas Alonzo Streetman, 32, Patterson, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Streetman was re-leased on a $525 bond.
—Crystal Gail Thompson, 43, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:11 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of criminal damage to property. Thompson was released on a summons to appear June 15.
—Jalicia Janee Broussard, 27, New Iberia, was arrested at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear as a witness Aug. 9.
—Tyrone Alexander Jr., 22, Franklin, was arrested at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday on charge of reckless operation (no accident), possession of marijuana and driver must be licensed. Alexander was released on a summons to appear June 15.
—Linwood Darby Jr., 54, Patterson, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of no passing zone. Darby was released on a summons to appear June 15.
—Shawn Case Lovell Sr., 44, Berwick, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of speeding. Bail has not been set.
—Brandon David Jones, 37, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:04 p.m. Monday on charges of improper lane use and possession of marijuana. Jones was released on a summons to appear Monday.

Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly reported these arrests:
—Ingrid Jack, 31, Deforest Lane, Franklin, was arrested at 9:43 a.m. Monday, on a warrant dated Jan. 19 on a charge of disturbing the peace )fighting). Jack was booked, processed and released on a $1,000. bond.
—Jason Vallet, 24, Marais Street, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11 a.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic abuse battery with strangulation and domestic abuse battery. JOSEPH HARRINGTON

Joseph Harrington, 91, a resident of Patterson, passed way Monday, February 28, 2022, at his home.

Wilmer was born January 28, 1931, the son of Theonis Harrington Sr. and Lucille Lemaire Harrington.

He survived by his son, William C. Mumford IV “Billy” and wife Gina of Patterson; two sisters, Geraldine Hathorn and Martha Harrington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris “Totsie” Giroir Harrington; and two brothers, Theonis Harrington Jr. and Leo Harrington.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, March 4, at Morgan City Cemetery with Father Bennerfield officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at Twin City funeral Home from 9 a.m. until noon.

St. Mary communities will receive funds for water improvements

St. Mary Parish communities will share in $18 million in state funding for water system improvements, state Sen. Bret Allain announced Wednesday.

Allain, R-Franklin, announced the funding for governments in District 21, which he represents. Projects were approved for funding by the Water Sector Commission and funded through the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget.

Allain serves on both entities. He was appointed to the commission by the Senate president and serves on the budget committee as chairman of the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee.

“These much-needed projects for local water systems in District 21 will provide improved infrastructure so that districts can continue to provide reliable and quality water services to the customers they serve,” Allain said in a press release.

The funding breakdown:
—$6.56 million for St. Mary Parish Waterworks District 4 (Charenton).
—$1.16 million for St. Mary Parish Waterworks District 3 (Centerville) to apply toward a $2.04 million project.
—$3.97 million for Morgan City to apply to a planned $4.58 million improvement project.
—$5 million for Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Waterworks District 1 (Houma) to apply toward a planned $13.39 million project.
—$1.39 million in bonds and $500,000 in cash for water system improvements in Jeanerette.

“These projects represent critical investments that will help modernize infrastructure across District 21, and I am happy to have played a part in bringing these tax dollars home for projects that are vital to all members of our community,” Allain said.

AMOS JOSEPH SCADLOCK

Amos Joseph Scadlock, 75, a native of Morgan City and resident of Patterson, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Frost Scadlock of Patterson; two children, Sonya Brown of Ruston and Christopher Johnson of Dalton, Georgia; four sisters, LeAnna Foret and
Louella Aucoin, both of Patterson, Betty Boudreaux of Houma and Emma Boudreaux of New Iberia; four grand-children; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Patterson Cemetery.

Twin City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
