Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Shannon K. Mabrey, 42, Rue de Kajun Street, Pierre Part, was arrested Thursday on charges of obscenity and two counts of indecent behavior with juvenile under 13.

On June 12, deputies responded to a complaint in the 100 block of Rue de Kajun Street in reference to an individual performing acts sexual in nature and exposing himself to children under the age of 13. The indecent behavior was repetitive.

Detectives initiated an investigation and established probable cause sufficient to obtain an arrest warrant as well as a search warrant. Mabrey was arrested during the execution of the search warrant at his residence on Thursday.

Mabrey was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and remains incarcerated with bond set at $105,000.

--Hunter Michael Gauthreaux, 29, Teal Drive, Labadieville, was arrested on a charge of nonconsensual disclosure of a private image.

On June 20, detectives were made aware of an image that had been distributed by electronic means and made public. That image was very personal in nature and was never intended for public distribution.

Detectives were able to identify Gauthreaux as the person who came into possession of the image and subsequently distributed the photo.
Gauthreaux was interviewed on Thursday and as a result, Gauthreaux was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with bond set at $15,000.

Nicholls bestows honorary doctorate on Archie Manning

Nicholls State University hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new covered practice facility for athletics, made possible by the state of Louisiana, the Manning family, and Shaw Sports Turf.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Nicholls President Dr. Jay Clune presented Nicholls’ honorary doctorate to former Saints quarterback Archie Manning. The honorary doctorate is the highest degree Nicholls can bestow.

“Nicholls long-standing partnership with my family just means everything. It’s been such a wonderful relationship. There’s so much hospitality, and the way they’ve helped us with the Manning Passing Academy makes the university a great partner,” said Archie Manning.

“Archie Manning has had a profound impact on all of us here in south Louisiana,” Clune said. “He, his family, and the Manning Passing Academy have helped put Nicholls and Thibodaux on the national stage, and it is for this impact that we are honored to present him with the honorary doctorate.”

The facility is set to be completed this fall, with construction picking back up at the end of the summer to complete the full football field. The multisport space will serve as an area for all Nicholls sports, benefitting during inclement weather or serving as a location to host future sports camps.

The Manning Passing Academy takes place at Nicholls from June 22-25. The football camp attracts over 1,200 high school quarterbacks and receivers from across the United States, as well as international destinations.

Over the next six years, the Manning Passing Academy is set to bring more than $15 million to the local economy.

Anyone who listens to AM radio knows that that there are good days for reception and bad days, and Saturday was a challenge for the local amateurs. But in a few minutes as these pictures were taken, the local ham radio operators made contacts with stations all along the East Coast. In these photos, Paul Harvey, at right in the top photo, introduced children to bees and the role they play in making honey with a demonstration hive at the Bayou Vista branch. At the same time, youngsters were learning about nutrition in Amelia and making paper crowns in Patterson. The Morgan City Library, a separate entity, was ready to kick off its summer reading program Thursday.
