Newman hands Berwick it first loss of the season

Early miscues sank Berwick in a battle of unbeaten teams Friday at Geisler Stadium. Newman (4-0) jumped out to a 23-7 halftime lead and held on for a 37-27 nondistrict win. The Greenies opened the scoring after the Panthers failed to convert a fake punt on a fourth-and-1 from the Berwick 26-yard line. James Poche scored on a 15-yard run with 6:04 remaining in the opening quarter. The quarter ended with Newman up 7-0. Donaldsonville eases past MCHS 44-6

The Morgan City High School football team’s two-game winning streak was snapped Friday with a 44-6 loss to Class 3A Donaldsonville. While Morgan City trailed just 22-6 at halftime, Donaldsonville outscored the Tigers, 22-0 in the second half for the final margin. Morgan City's lone score came via a pass from quarterback Alex Brocato to receiver KeSean Francois. Morgan City came into Friday’s contest having defeated Hanson 29-24 and North Central 55-14 in the last two weeks. MCHS falls to Assumption in four games

Division 2 Assumption High School defeated Morgan City High School, 3-1 (14-25, 13-25, 25-20, 23-25) in volleyball action at Morgan City Thursday. Sh’diamond Holly, Kennedy Hebert and Jolee Nini led Morgan City. Holly had 12 kills and three solo blocks, while Hebert recorded 10 kills, one ace, two digs, one solo block and one block assist. September St. Mary AARP meeting held

St. Mary Parish AARP Chapter 4435 held its monthly meeting Sept. 11 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
Prior to the meeting, members and guests were entertained with dance music from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and bingo until 6:15 p.m. During that time, flu shots were offered to the members by Walgreen’s Pharmacy.
The meeting and meal sponsors for September were St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert and State Sen. Bret Allain. Hebert spoke to the membership and introduced his staff.
Attendees were served a meal consisting of shrimp gumbo, rice and potato salad. The meal was prepared by Floyd and Shirley Hymel, and Sterling and Pat Fryou.
Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized with a cake donated by M C Bank.
