Joseph Butler Jr., 61, a resident of Patterson, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.

JOYCE THIBODEAUX COCKERHAM-
August 13, 1927-December 8, 2018
Joyce Thibodeaux Cockerham, born at Lafourche Crossing, Louisiana, on August 13, 1927, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on December 8, 2018, in Lafourche Parish at the age of 91. She was a longtime resident of Berwick. She loved her family, all children, and to cook, but most of all she loved the Lord God and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Berwick.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Frances and her son-in-law, Buddy Justillien; numerous nieces and nephews, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and her precious cat, Ginu.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, two brothers, two sisters, two nieces and three nephews.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Berwick. Following services, Joyce will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery alongside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Berwick or to your favorite charity.
Woman charged with resisting officer
A 32-year-old woman was charged with resisting arrest after Morgan City police stopped a vehicle with improper lighting, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Deonta A. Reaux, 32, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:14 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging her with failure to appear for trial and on charges of headlights required and resisting an officer.
An officer in the area of Duke Street observed a vehicle with improper lighting. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, Reaux , had an arrest warrant for 16th Judicial District Court. When the officer tried to arrest Reaux, she resisted but was later subdued, Blair said. Reaux was jailed.
Blair reported that officers responded to 54 calls and reported the following arrests:
—Chris J. Boudreaux, 51, of McDermott Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with six counts for failure to appear for trial. Boudreaux was arrested at the police department for city court. Boudreaux was jailed.
—Samantha A. Hebert, 39, of South Bay Road in Pierre Part, was arrested at 10:47 p.m. Monday on charges of driving under suspension, traffic control signals required and no insurance.
—Lori E. Guyon, 29, of South Bay Road in Pierre Part, was arrested at 10:47 p.m. Monday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
A patrol officer observed a vehicle in the area of La. 182 near Florence Street disregard a red traffic signal. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Hebert, had a suspended driver’s license, and the vehicle was not insured, Blair said.
The passenger in the vehicle, Guyon, was in possession of drug paraphernalia, Blair said. Both Hebert and Guyon were jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported that deputies responded to 47 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Gerlisa Calais, 41, of Bowen Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:01 a.m. Monday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks.
A deputy made contact with Calais at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse after being informed by courtroom security that Calais was in court and held an active warrant. Calais was arrested on the warrant and released on a summons to appear in court March 6, 2019.
—A juvenile male, 14, of Berwick, was arrested at 11:01 a.m. Monday on a charge of theft .
A deputy patrolling Centerville was dispatched to a location on La. 182 in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a man who stated that some money had been stolen by a juvenile.
The deputy made contact with the juvenile and found that he was involved in the theft, Anslum said. The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Louis Dumesnil, 50, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:41 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of operating a vehicle while license is suspended.
A corrections deputy made contact with Dumesnil at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center when Dumesnil was brought in by a bondsman. Dumesnil was arrested on said warrant and jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Danny Fulks Jr., 33, of Parish Road in Franklin, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with theft of a motor vehicle. No bail was set.
Franklin Police Chief Tina Thibodeaux reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Dawn Height, 49, of Pecan Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:02 p.m. Monday on a charge of four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Height was jailed with no bail set yet.
Patterson Police Chief Janis Merritt reported no arrests.

Bertaut presented St. Mary AARP award
Carroll “Bobby” Bertaut was presented the St. Mary AARP Community Service Award at the St. Mary AARP Dec. 3 meeting at St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
Bertaut is an AARP board member that has worked to improve the chapter and the community. He was presented with the award by St. Mary AARP Recording Secretary AnnEtta Lombardo.
Sponsor of the meeting and meal was Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. Attendees were served roast beef, rice and gravy, carrots and salad. The meal was prepared by Lonnie and Kathy LaBouve, and Lance Devillier.
Aphreikah DuHaney-West, CEO of Teche Regional Medical Center, discussed the status of the medical center and the anticipated effects on the center as a result of the upcoming transition to new ownership and management in 2019.
Following the meal, a special “Christmas Fun” activity was presented by Faye and Gordon Smith. It featured a Christmas audience participation game and a Christmas carol sing-along. In conclusion, Gordon Smith sang a solo performance of “O’ Holy Night.”
Prior to the meeting, members and guests were entertained with dance music followed by bingo until 6:15 p.m.
Birthday and anniversary celebrants for December were recognized at the meeting. The cake was donated by M C Bank.
The next St. Mary AARP monthly meeting and meal will be held on Jan. 7, 2019.
BOBBY F. SIMMONS
June 12, 1956 - December 4, 2018
Bobby F. Simmons, a former resident of Franklin and a 20 year resident of Pine Prairie, passed away at the age of 62 on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in Franklin at the home of his sons.
Bobby was born on Tuesday, June 12, 1956 in DeRidder, one of eight children born to Bobby Simmons and Theda Morrison. He was a longtime Law Enforcement Officer, working in his early years for the Franklin Police Department, then later for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Pine Prairie Police Department.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of 35 years, Pat Thomas Simmons; sons, James Tyler Jr. and Jesse Tyler; one granddaughter, Kalie Tyler; six siblings, Cathy S. Wilson, Paula S. Futrell, John Simmons, Roger Simmons, Rose W. Carmouche, and Danny Wilbanks; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Simmons; his mother and step-father, Theda Morrison Wilbanks and Daniel Wilbanks; and one brother, David Simmons.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

JANICE NAQUIN COLE
July 13, 1938 - December 7, 2018
Janice Naquin Cole, a resident of Baldwin for the past 54 years, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on Friday morning, December 7, 2018, at her home.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Janice was born in Franklin on July 13, 1938, the eldest of three children born to Dave and Marie Naquin. She was a licensed Cosmetologist, having worked for over 60 years, who truly loved her work as well as all of her customers. Some of her favorite pastimes were crocheting baby blankets for her grandchildren as well as family and friends, watching old westerns, especially John Wayne movies, and most importantly, spending time with her family. She was a devout Catholic and longtime devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baldwin, who had a deep faith in the Lord, a generous heart, and a kind nature, but also didn’t hesitate to speak her mind. She had a smile as big as her heart and a boisterous laugh that was contagious. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Percy “Popa” Cole; four children, David Cole and his wife Marie, Travis Cole and his wife Susan, Johanna Cole Pham and her husband Phuoc, and Blane Cole and his wife Rebecca; nine grandchildren, Christine Andrus and her husband Jarrod, Chandler Cole and her fiancé Dusty, Hydie Cole, Mattie Sue Cole, Abby Cole, Cole Matthew Pham, Claire Margaret Pham, Seth Cole and his wife Kelli, and Ethan Cole; six great grandchildren, Mason, Emma, Luke, Emberlyn, Salem, and Asher; sisters, Patricia “Patsy” Rodriguez and Johanna “Fran” Viator and her husband Ray; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave T. Naquin and Marie Hebert Naquin; paternal grandparents, Jack Naquin and Ida Becnel Naquin; maternal grandparents, Alfred J. Hebert and Johanna Kuhlman Hebert; brother-in-law, Raphael Etienne “Pookie” Rodriguez Jr.; godchild, Rebecca Rodriguez; and great niece, Celia Marie Picard.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 10, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church during a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Father Cedric Sonnier was the Celebrant for the Mass with Father Bill Melancon concelebrating. Lectors were Johanna Cole Pham, Claire Margaret Pham, and Marie Cole. Serving as pallbearers were David Cole, Travis Cole, Blane Cole, Phuoc Pham, Seth Cole, and Cole Matthew Pham. Music for the Mass was provided by Stephanie Hoffpauir.
Visitation was observed Monday at Sacred Heart from 9 a.m. until service time.
