Voters renew School Board sales tax
The turnout was small, but the margin was big.
St. Mary voters on Saturday renewed a 0.45% sales tax devoted to pay for teachers and support staff members. With all 46 precincts reporting, 2,598 people or 82%, voted for the renewal. Voting no were 559 people, or 18%.
The renewal that passed Saturday is for five years. The tax is expected to raise $5.1 million a year.
The unofficial turnout Saturday was 10.4%, according to the Secretary of State's Office.
