CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary School Board made another attempt Tuesday to get a new half-cent sales tax on the May 9 ballot after an influential state senator expressed reservations about the original proposition.
At a special meeting, the board added a five-year sunset provision to its resolution in response to concerns expressed by state Sen. Bret Allain about a tax enacted in perpetuity. The resolution seeks a May 9 election.
Now the amended resolution goes to the State Bond Commission’s Ad Hoc Subcommittee, which meets March 11 with enough time to authorize the May 9 vote.
