MC, SMC All-Stars advance to regional title games

The Morgan City 10-year-old and St. Mary Central 12-year-old All-Star teams advanced to the final day of their respective Dixie Youth Regional Tournament and will play for tournament titles Tuesday evening.
St. Mary Central, which is playing in the Louisiana Dixie Youth Majors North Regional in Shreveport, will have a little more work to do of the two. St. Mary Central has one loss in tournament play and must beat undefeated West Carroll twice.
Game 1 will be at 5:30 p.m., and if St. Mary Central wins that game, a winner-take-all game will be played at 7:30 p.m.
St. Mary Central advanced to the final round after defeating Mike Miley Playground 5-2 Monday.
In Vidalia, Morgan City routed North Sabine 12-2 in four innings in an elimination bracket game.
Because Delhi, which had one loss, defeated previously unbeaten Ville Platte 22-10 in four innings, it left three teams with one loss a piece, and the teams drew for a bye to the tournament title game. Morgan City drew the bye and will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of the 5:30 p.m. contest between Delhi and Ville Platte.
In Morgan City’s win Monday, Lucas Pickens earned the win, while Bryan Cordero and Noah Guarisco also pitched.
Offensively, Pickens and JaKavior Kemp led Morgan City as each finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors were Jade Oliney and Cordero, each 1-for-2.
Tuesday in Morgan City’s 4-1 loss to Ville Platte that dropped the local squad to the elimination bracket, Chaz’ Pickens suffered the loss. In 4.2 innings, he fanned eight.
Offensively, Chaz’ Pickens and Oliney each finished 1-for-2, while Jamyre Bias was 1-for-3.
In St. Mary Central’s victory Monday, all of the scoring came in the final two innings as St. Mary Central scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth for a 5-0 lead. Mike Miley scored two runs in its final at bat.
Hayden Robinson earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered five hits, walked one, hit one batter and fanned seven.
Dawson Richard led St. Mary Central with a 3-for-3 performance with a home run, two RBIs and a run. Other top St. Mary Central offensive contributors were Grant White, 1-for-2, a double; Kaleb Leonard 1-for-2, an RBI; Jack Lipari, 1-for-1; Thomas Nini, 1-for-3, two runs; and Henry Thorguson, 1-for-3.
