This photo of a tent outside Ochsner St. Mary showed up on Facebook this weekend and provoked speculation about what it means for the hospital and the spread of COVID-19 in the parish. Hospital spokeswoman Sabrina Williams said Sunday that the hospital has set up an air-conditioned tent near the emergency room in the event the influx of patients in the ER continues to rise. Currently 75% of acute inpatients at Ochsner St. Mary are COVID patients, Williams said.

The rapid spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant continues to have an impact on St. Mary Parish. Ochsner St. Mary has set up an air-conditioned tent near the Emergency Room in case the number of new cases here keeps rising, hospital spokeswoman Sabrina Williams said in an email Sunday. Three-quarters of the acute care patients at the Morgan City hospital are COVID patients, Williams said.
