A proposal to double the annual dredging funds the Port of Morgan City receives could have an enormous impact on waterway commerce in the region, port leaders say.
Area officials learned Monday that President Donald Trump’s proposed Army Civil Works 2019 fiscal year budget includes $12.68 million in dredging funds for the Port of Morgan City through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Corps has received roughly $6 million in annual funding to dredge the Port of Morgan City’s waterways during recent years, and it hasn’t received near $13 million since 2012.
