The proposed Commercial Activity Tax being considered in the state Legislature would hit St. Mary Parish small businesses especially hard at a time when many are barely surviving as it is, some local leaders say.
House Bill 628, authored by state Rep. Sam Jones, D-Franklin, would impose a tax on gross receipts of certain entities doing business in Louisiana, according to the bill’s digest. The bill is set to go before the House Ways and Means Committee Tuesday.
