St. Mary lawmakers file bills on retirement, property rights, facility dogs

St. Mary’s state legislators, especially state Sen. Bret Allain, have been busily prefiling bills for the 2020 session, which begins March 9. On the surface, some of the bills prefiled by Allain, R-Franklin, look like strictly local housekeeping measures. But the objects may be bigger than they appear. And an offering by state Rep. Beryl Amedee, R-Gray, would name an existing law after a dog. The dog is Duvall, an 8-year-old Labrador retriever and facility dog for the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office.
