CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary Parish School Board on Thursday approved what supporters hope will be a partial remedy for the parish’s economic straits.
The board OK’d a resolution designed to streamline the process by which new and expanding manufacturers can get an exemption from property taxes.
The resolution is about the Louisiana Industrial Tax Exemption Program.
Until 2016, the decision about whether to grant a tax exemption under the program to new manufacturers rested with the Governor’s Office and the Board of Industry and Commerce.
