CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary Parish School Board met Tuesday for a 2018-19 budget workshop and saw a document that can be balanced without tapping fund balances to pay for operations, a common recourse for local governments in a time when the parish’s economy has slumped.
“Given everything we’ve been through, it looks pretty good,” said Chief Financial Officer Alton Ray Perry.
But that doesn’t mean the proposal contains no pain, including the loss of 30 teacher positions through attrition and the loss of two administrative positions.
