After a promising trend in employment statistics in recent months, February employment numbers in St. Mary Parish were a letdown, a parish economic official said. St. Mary Parish’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.3 percent in February from 6.5 percent in January, according to Louisiana Workforce Commission statistics. St. Mary’s February employment statistics were “very disappointing,” said Frank Fink, parish economic development director. “It looked like things were getting a lot better,” Fink said.
