New school policies in place

CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary Parish School Board heard Thursday about new policies coming down from the state and federal governments, including one that will make new demands on students, parents, teachers and other education professionals. After Thursday’s regular meeting, Assistant Superintendent Teresa Bagwell talked about the policy that will require each student entering fifth- and ninth-grade without achieving proficiency on the LEAP test must have an individual academic improvement plan. “Teachers have to work together with parents and support providers like speech teachers,” Bagwell said.
