The St. Mary Levee District is joining a group of area levee districts to hire a lobbying firm in hopes of easing federal mitigation requirements and other regulations they say are extremely costly and slowing down flood protection projects.
The levee district commission met Thurs-day at the Port of Morgan City’s Government Emergency Operations Center.
The commission approved joining Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District, North Lafourche Levee District and South Lafourche Levee District to engage lobbying firm, Mercury LLC Consultants, to seek changes in mitigation rules and regulations.
