The continual uncertainty surrounding Louisiana government’s annual budget should be gone at least for the next few years, according to some area legislators.
As of July 1, state’s overall sales tax will decrease from 5 percent to 4.45 percent. Since July 1, 2016, the state has had a temporary 1 percent sales tax in place. That temporary sales tax is set to expire July 1, 2018.
On Sunday, the Senate passed a temporary 0.45 percent sales tax that will begin July 1, 2018, and continue through June 30, 2025. The bill should raise $463 million for the coming fiscal year.
