The Jones Act is crucial to the success of maritime industry in south Louisiana, and efforts by some members of Congress to try to abolish the federal law would devastate the industry, a federal customs official said Wednesday.
Mike Hebert, director of the Jones Act Division of Enforcement with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, was the guest speaker during the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce business luncheon at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
