Ex-inmate sues over alleged jail attack

A former inmate at the St. Mary Parish jail, who was allegedly severely beaten by another inmate, has sued Sheriff Mark Hebert saying the sheriff didn’t take action to prevent the attack and didn’t provide medical treatment. Justin Scarbrough filed the lawsuit Nov. 22 against Hebert, according to parish clerk of court records. Scarbrough, 25, alleged that while he was an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, another inmate severely beat him Nov. 26, 2016.
