East St. Mary cities look for flood solutions

BERWICK — Patterson, Berwick and Morgan City have been working on projects aimed at finding long-term solutions to flooding. Concerned homeowners at council meetings and now the prospect of a tropical system that might deliver 10-15 inches of rain through this weekend are adding urgency to the search. Two high-water events, on April 4 and June 7, have fueled particular concerns. In Berwick, the June 7 rainfall of at least 4 inches put water in 39 homes and hit the Country Club Estates Subdivision hard. Residents asked for help at the June 11 Town Council meeting.
