The Rev. Wilfred Johnson was once in the shoes of the people he’s now dedicated his life to helping and hopes others will do the same.
Officials hosted a mentor training session Saturday at Siracusa Recreation Center to help train people to assist ex-offenders in making a successful transition from prison back into civilian life.
Johnson, co-founder of A New Chapter Transitional Aftercare Program in New Iberia, led the session. The program serves Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes and helps reduce recidivism by providing pre-release and post-release life skills and mentoring to incarcerated people.
