Change in punishment policy for local schools

CENTERVILLE — St. Mary Parish School Board members, who usually set policy for the parish’s public schools, heard Thursday about a policy the Legislature set for them — a ban on corporal punishment for special education students. At Thursday’s board meeting, members also heard about another development that may make more than 1,500 school board employees, retirees and their dependents feel as though their wallets are getting spanked.
