Berwick council wants additional comments on new rules for tobacco

BERWICK — The town council seems poised to get tougher on smoking — or better for nonsmokers, depending on which way the cigarette points. But that isn’t happening yet. With her bill designating town property where smoking, chewing and vaping are expressly forbidden on Tuesday’s meeting agenda, Mayor Pro-Tem Jacki Ackel deferred introduction of the measure until the council hears more from employees and the public. Her bill would define tobacco use — including cigars, pipes, ready-made or roll-your-own cigarettes, smokeless products, vaping and e-cigarettes — and prohibit that use in a specific list of town properties. Those properties are the Brown House;
