Work should begin in early 2019 on a St. Mary Levee District project that officials say will provide flood protection for much of the west end of St. Mary Parish.
The St. Mary Levee District Commission met Thursday at the Parish Courthouse.
Officials expect to receive $2 million in funding for the Bayou Teche Flood Protection Project through a grant from the Statewide Flood Control Program. Those funds should become available after the state’s fiscal year begins July 1.
