A flood protection project intended to protect nearly the entire west end of St. Mary Parish is expected to get a $2 million boost in funding from the state in the coming months.
The St. Mary Levee District Commission met Thursday in Morgan City.
The district recently received news that the Bayou Teche Floodgate Project should get $2 million this year from a Statewide Flood Control grant. The grant still has to be officially approved by the Legislature, but levee district officials expect that to happen, Levee District Executive Director Tim Matte said.
