Senator: School Board may have to wait till November for tax vote

If the St. Mary Parish School Board wants to put a half-cent sales tax before voters without a sunset provision, the board may have to wait until November and what will presumably be a big turnout for the presidential election, state Sen. Bret Allain said Monday. Allain, R-Franklin, spoke to members of the St. Mary Industrial Group at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. Allain, who will chair the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee when the Legislature convenes March 9, also sits on the State Bond Commission.
