At its Tuesday meeting, the Morgan City Council made official its call for a property tax renewal election.
Also Tuesday, the council approved requests to run fundraising and entertainment events, took the first step toward making money available for unforeseen expenses, and picked a new mayor pro tem.
The council passed a resolution asking the state to approve a May 9 election on renewal of a 2-mill property tax for operation and maintenance of Morgan City Municipal Auditorium.
The renewal of the tax, which raises about $800,000 a year, would be for 10 years.
